FSNavigator Mountain Elevations

Does anyone know why mountain elevations are indicated inaccurately (way off!) in FSNavigator?

Hi Philip, not sure if the elevations that are indicated are indeed wrong... I always had the impression that (obviously ) the amount of heights that can be mentioned on the map are limited and therefore you do not get all the elevations, giving you the impression that sometimes you are safe but reality you are not... I indeed also lost my simulated life because of this..only suggestion I have would be to ask same question at the fsnavigator forum at www.fsnavigator.comb rdgs Dick

Dick,If you look around Colorado Springs, not only is Pikes Peak the wrong altitude, it's completely in the wrong place. Same goes for Mt. Rainier, Mt. Shasta, Mt. Evans, Long's Peak - and every other prominent mountain you can name plus others.I don't know where Helge gets his data, but it's really wrong. I just ignore the elevation data and use real sextionals for it.

Uh, I thought those heights listed in FSNavigator where in meters?

Probably done to keep you awake....... Just a quick thought - if the height & the location are wrong are you (or rather we) sure that the height is for the summit and not a neighbouring mountain or something other than the summit height ???

I think all mountains depicted on FSNavigator are a very rough estimate of where a given (major) mountain is.Go and check the Mont Blanc, Europe's highest mountain. There is a 10.000 feet mountain in that area, but in the wrong place and not high enough.I never take those indications as something I use for my flight planning. If I want to do VFR-through-the-mountains, I get me a real-world road map (on-line or on paper), and some flight charts. On them I figure out the best route to fly through the valleys or over passes... usually following the roads.
