Blurries Tip.....

Recommended Posts

I've been doing this for so long, I don't think I've ever bothered to pass it on, so here goes...I often "task switch" on longer flights, getting caught up on the forums, email or whatever. I have the pause on task switch option disabled in FS, so it runs away in the background. Upon return to FS, it's a blurry mess--expected considering it's churning away in the background while I'm tying up the cpu with Avsim's forums.... :)Anyway, I have the "5" key on my numeric keypad assigned for the "look down" view. When I return to FS from a long stretch in the forums, or even if I get a dynamic spot of blurries, I simply press "5" on the numpad while in cockpit view. I then watch as the textures below return to clarity--usually takes about 15-30 seconds (if I'm returning from another task) or 5-10 seconds (to clear dynamic blurries). I can then look in any direction--and see perfectly clear textures as far as the eye can see--until I assault FS again with my web surfing habits. For the most part, my FS experience is a "clear" one. This trick helps for those rare dynamic blurries and/or user induced blurries...-John

JohnIt's a very interesting tip, but could you please tell us what specification (video card etc.) you have, together with a note of the display settings within FS2002 and any 'tweaked' settings you're using that give you the clear textures in the first place. Many thanks.Toni.

I've used this trick on my former Voodoo, and my current GeF/2 TI. The rest of my settings are a compromise vs. my cpu speed (800 MHZ) and my minimum scenery "likes" for 2K2.... First, my FS2002.cfg is untweaked. I have not applied any of the popular tricks which some have said help texture clarity. My FS2002 settings are maxed, except in these areas:A/C reflections--Normally off, except for setting up outside screenshotsAI--off unless I'm simulating flight in a high traffic area.Shadows--off.Autogen--none, except when flying ultralight aircraft, in which case I max it or leave it one notch below max. If I'm planning a flight anywhere higher than 2000-3000 ft. agl, I leave it off.Water detail, reflections--offScreen Resolution--800x600x32. I used to run at higher resolutions, but noted little improvement in the visuals, so I went back down to 800x600x32. I leave everything else maxed--mesh complexity, terrain detail, aircraft detail, etc.... On the system setup side, I boot my system clean, other than the system tray. As I noted in my thread, the most profound influence I've seen on blurries are concurrent apps, so I avoid them.On the Nvidia side, I've set LOD at -.5, and enabled anisotropic filtering. Note that although this improves texture clarity, it has nothing to do with dynamic blurries. To avoid dynamic blurries in flight, I switch views sparingly, and allow 30 seconds between view switches--which allows all the textures for a current view to load before forcing another on the sim. The rest of my system specs:P3/800, Windows 98SE, 256Megs Ram, SB Live ValueNvidia runs the 21.83 drivers. I've worked with all the driver sets, and the 21.83 seems the best with the GeF/2TI...Below is a shot which is fairly typical of my sim performance. The A/C is Bill Lyon's great Jenny. The shot is taken about 800 ft. above the deck, cruising at the terrifying speed of 62 KIAS...

Yep, I've been doing this 'trick' for sometime now and it works great. Also, just to add to your point, when you're looking down, zoom out using the minus key on your keybaord, and the textures will clear up out in the distance.Ryan-Flightpro08 :-coolVATSIM Pilot/ControllerZLA ARTCC Controller 1 (C-1)SAN TRACON Lead [link:www.taxiwaysigns.com]Taxiwaysigns.com Scenery Designer-----------------------------My "Home Made" System Specs:Intel Pentium 4 2.2GHz ProcessorTurbo Gamer ATX Mid-Tower with 420W Power SupplyEPoX 4G4A Motherboard with Intel 845G ChipsetVisiontek XTASY GeForce4 128MB Ti4600 (Det 29.80 WHQL Drivers)512MB PC2100 DDR RAM40GB Matrox 7200RPM Hard DriveWindows XP Home Edition*No CPU or GPU Overclocking*3dMark2001SE Score: 10346

Where can Bill Lyons' Jenny be found? I looked through the library but no luck. Searched on both his name (under the Author field) and Jenny. Thanks!

Here's his website:http://windrfters.com/Quite a few classic aircraft.... The Jenny has always been one of my favorites, and this is the first IMHO that does the aircraft justice. There's a full virtual cockpit, and every part of the aircraft is visible from in the cockpit--an issue often overlooked in today's freeware offerings. I'd put the Jenny right up there in my top ten favorite aircraft....-John
