and I know this doesn't fit this forum exactly, but maybe somebody can point me in the right direction.I am trying to find a way to connect the external microphone line from my camcorder into a jack for the intercom system of our general aviation Cherokee. I need to know whether or not I can cut off the actual microphone, and solder on a jack to plug into the intercom system.Can anyone tell me if this will work? And, if you know, how exactly would I wire this jack connection?Any help greatly appreciated,Mike

A possible information source is Jim Weir. He writes the monthly "Aero 'Lectrics" column in Kitplanes magazine. (He also has his own company, RST Engineering. www.rst-engr.com ) At the end of his column it says he answers avionics questions at rec.aviation.homebuilt . I presume you are trying to get the cockpit audio from the phones to the camcorder so you can hear the radio & Intercoms on the recorded tape, one pssible solution may be a magnetic pickup that is stuck onto one of the headsets, this arrangement is used for telephone handsets to pickup the audio in the earpiece & does not require direct wiring to the system.The pickup is then plugged into the cam corder, I think it would be cheap easy solution if it infact does work, it would not cost a great deal to try it out.Glenn.

You can try a couple of things:Go to Radio Shack and get their attenuating cable (something like '42-2152') plus an adapter for one end to go into the 1/4" intercom jack.Someone also once mentioned they bought some cheap ear bud headphones from RS, put one in each headset ear cup, then plugged them into their recorder. The buds act as microphones. Or just do that with the remote microphone you already have!I think Sporty's and other flight shops also sell $$ adapters.Luck!
