Home made Yoke, Rudder and Throttle

Hi everybody, first of all I'm a young French so I don't speak English very well.So, I'm looking for persones that are making home made yoke, rudder or/and throttle. I'm concepting a home made yoke, rudder and throttle with a Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro 2 and I would like to show my project and to see yours projects.I have begin to draw anything so I let you see:http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/15449.jpgThe final version will not be like this, the mecanism is better but it's juste an exemple to understand how it will seems.I will put pictures when I'll begin the fabrication so I have to pass the school exams and the I begin.

Good luck with it.Why not disassemble the joystick and attach it's pots directly to the yoke's axle at the top and the column's axle at the bottom?That should simplify the mechanics considerably.The blue encircled bits, are those rudder pedals?

Because if I keep my mecanism like this the Force Feedback will Run without problem.The potentiometer of the yaw axis is already disassembled from the joystick and I'll put it directly in the rudders pedals.It's an old pictures and so the rudder will not be like this like the real mecanism but it's juste to see how it could seems.I have difficulties to explain exactly what I want but I put pictures of my work when he was ready to be seen.The mecanism is different, more little and stronger to support the force feedback without broken.The handle of the Joystick will be use for the yoke to keep the functions of the buttons and maybe I will disassembled the potentiometer of the throttle of the joystick to put him in the home made throttle, but I can put a cable between the home made throttle and the Joystick throttle potentiometer too. I don't know exactly, I have time think about it.For the blue encircled bits, it's an older version of the rudder. This two parts has to be articulate to keep the two pedals in the same axis whatever the movement.But it's an old diagram, I'll try to do a better with the new mecanisms that I want.

Hi Have a look at my sitehttp://home.wanadoo.nl/norbert.boschand click on yoke.Buy 2 100 kohm potentiometers . one sliding one rotating.And solder them to a db15 port. Mail me I can tell you which pin to use.In windows I made a special joystick with 2 axis and 1 button and everything worked fine.It cost only a few euro.My yokecolumn was only 20-25 euro I think (the yoke itself was the most, I got it from Ebay for 10dollars)Norbert Bosch

Hi,I've ever seen you site and I think that's you have make a very well yoke but I'm interesting by my mecanism because I can keep the Force Feedback of my Sidewinder Force Feedback.But if you have information to rely potentiometer to the USB port I am interested (for the futur throttle).So I only have to buy wood and a PVC tube. The easiest way to use a USB device for your throttles would be to buy a USB joystick with sufficient axes and strip out the electronics.Then you can substitute the pots of the joystick with your own if desired.You should check if the stick uses potentiometers or variable resitors and may have to make some changes if your yoke turns much more than the original stick.

Hi,Skymed, you have inspired my mecanism. Exactly my yoke will be a mix of many constructions. First of all, there are not too many pots in a Joystick for a throttle (I need 6 pots). And to conclude a USB Joystick is too expansive, it's less expansive to buy only 6 100kohms pots and to made the electronics on my own.And if you have links to help me to do the electronics I'am interested.

Hi Terega,Take a look on my site. I have designed several USB modules that might be of interest for you. You'll find my schematics and parts list for building your own. All you would need from me is one pre-programmed USB chip. I have one that is for 6 axis (100K pots) and 16 buttons.If you need a different configuration, just let me know and I might be able to accommodate your design.-Leo

Excellent!!! It's exactly what I want, thank you very much!For the moment I want to begin with the yoke and the rudder (after the exams) and then I build the throttle.Maybe when I'll build the throttle the PCB will be available.I'm really happy because I have exactly what I want.Thank you everybody!
