Red Arrows - three small fixes for my friends

Recommended Posts

Hello chaps and chappesses,Thanks to simmer input, I've made three small mods to my recent "Red Arrows" uploads of Mikko's/Kari's/my work which eventually will be incorporated into a fix file; but they're small things, and since there've been almost no complaints in something like 10,000 downloads to date, I shall wait until I've got something meaty to upload before posting new files. However, in the meantime, for my friends at Avsim:1. SINGLE AIRCRAFT LOAD PROBLEM.You will have noticed an annoying message that comes up every time you try to load the single Hawk. "Can't find model "BAe Hawk 'Red Arrows' T" in Library". Closing the box ends the interruption and the plane loads fine, but why live with it? Now you don't have to ...Change the aircraft folder name (within FS2002/AIRCRAFT) fromBAe Hawk 'Red Arrows' T.Mk1 AtoBAe Hawk 'Red Arrows' TThat's it. You won't see the message again. Thanks, Silvio from Brazil!2. LIGHTS ON THE DIAMOND NINE FORMATIONReplace the LIGHTS section with the following in the Diamond Nine's AIRCRAFT.CFG file, replacing round with square brackets around the title word LIGHTS:(LIGHTS)light.0=5, 19.40, 0.00, -1.90, fx_landing ,light.1=2, -0.50, 0.00, 3.40, fx_beacon ,light.2=5, 90.00, 0.00, -1.90, fx_landing ,light.3=5, 90.00, 80.32, -1.90, fx_landing ,light.4=5, 90.00, -80.32, -1.90, fx_landing ,light.5=2, 70.50, 0.00, 3.40, fx_beacon ,light.6=2, 70.50, 80.32, 3.40, fx_beacon ,light.7=2, 70.50, -80.32, 3.40, fx_beacon ,light.8=2, 140.00, 0.00, 3.40, fx_beacon ,light.9=5, 160.30, 0.00, -1.90, fx_landing ,light.10=5, 54.90, 39.80, -1.90, fx_landing ,light.11=5, 54.90, -39.80, -1.90, fx_landing ,light.12=2, 34.70, 39.80, 3.40, fx_beacon ,light.13=2, 34.70, -39.80, 3.40, fx_beacon ,light.14=5, 125.00, 39.80, -1.90, fx_landing ,light.15=5, 125.00, -39.80, -1.90, fx_landing ,light.16=2, 104.80, 39.80, 3.40, fx_beacon ,light.17=2, 104.80, -39.80, 3.40, fx_beacon ,This will give slightly more accurate lights. Note that due to the limitations of FS2002 (19 lights limit), there are nose lights (which the 'Reds' always deploy during display) and beacons only. No nav lights or other fancy stuff. Thanks, Kari, for tidying up my guesswork!3. ADF TO SHOW HALF FREQUENCIESThe radio stack in my 'Reds' panels is based on the concorde.gau from FS2000, and will not show unless you have that file installed. Presumably, most people have, or are just flying these planes for fun, as nobody has come back on this one despite my forgetting to highlight this in the initial release. However, many British NDBs transmit half frequency numbers e.g. 243.5, which the concorde.gau ADF cannot show. If this matters to you, replace the "gauge29" line in any or all of your 'Reds' PANEL.CFG files with the following:gauge29=737-400!ADF, 56,678,190,70//gauge29=CONCORDE!Radio-Adf, 56,678,190,70That will install the FS2002 737 ADF, which does show half freqs. Cosmetically, it looks the same and fits in nicely, although the readout is in green rather than red. If you decide you don't like that, and want to revert later, the old line is backed up for you, if you install this fix as above.OK? Happy flying ...Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontP.S. Tried my 'Reds' Diamond Nine with my 3D glasses for the first time last night, in the Scottish Highlands. AWWWWWWWWESOMMMMME! Thank you, E-Dimensional ...http://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.jpg

OK, forgive me just one small bump, because the message above (as I write) is at the bottom of page 3 already with just 46 views. Checked the WWW last night and the "Reds" have actually had nearly 30,000 downloads (across six sites) in just three weeks ... so it's just possible someone would appreciate this information who didn't see it yesterday. If not ... well, I guess that's just life as a freeware man. If it works, you never hear from anyone .... if it doesn't, heck YES, you do!Incidentally, more info on the dreaded "can't find model" message .... it was including a "period" in the aircraft folder name that caused the prob. Thus, all you have to do with the single Arrow is to kill the "dot" in the folder name and ... hey presto .. .all is well. Call it what you like, but the dot is the killer ... FS2002 seems to think that means your folder is a file name.Ya live an' learn.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg

>...I guess that's just life as a freeware man. >If it works, you never hear from anyone .... if it doesn't, >heck YES, you do! Hi Mark, I can easily imagine you're right in that assumption, and I agree that's NOT FAIR. So please let me thank you VERY MUCH for this sensational Red Arrows Pack. I'd much appreciate if you send my gratitude also to the other authors involved. You might want to know that I'm primarily a FU3 (Flight Unlimited III) user, and still convinced that one is (even today) an unsurpassed sim in many aspects. However, from time to time a great add-on pack draws my attention to FS2002, and no doubt yours have been one of those few.I'm also primarily focused on prop driven, light aircraft, so jet aircraft are still more unlikely to catch my attention, but I must admit your pack is exceptional. I'm enjoying it immensely and can't wait to see what REDPACK7 will bring :). Once again, thank you very much.>Incidentally, more info on the dreaded "can't find model" >message .... it was including a "period" in the aircraft >folder name that caused the prob. Thanks also for this info. The "can't find model" message was driving me nuts!!Blue skies,

Hi StearmanThanks for your note. This thread wasn't quite dead, then! It's good of you to write and I know that your message will be seen by all co-authors; they all check this forum. Your support is much appreciated. One thing the "Reds" downloads seem to have done is taken flightsim out to many more people! I have had dozens of emails from simmers saying that for the first time, their wife took an interest; that even the kids suddenly found Daddy's funny computer hobby fascinating; that they have all invited the neighbours in to have a look! There's no doubt that in Tower View, with the sound turned up, the Reds are a spectacular sight. We have Kari Virtanen to thank for that, and I'm really pleased with the way they turned out. There'll be more, yes, in REDPACK7 ... but give it a few weeks!I took Mikko's single down the Grand Canyon last night at 100'. Now that WAS fun.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/docpics/img8.jpg

Yeah, I can imagine that... (I loved specially the neighbours' part) :-lolBTW, since I live in Barcelona (Spain), you might find interesting to know the Reds are scheduled for performing here next Sunday the 22nd... (along with the "Patrouille de France", "Frecce Tricolori" and "Patrulla Aguila", I must say) :)Keep up the good work. Thanks once again, best regards.
