What he needs is a rotary decoder to interpret each CW/CCW rotation. Otherwise unless he has some funky wiring setup, the encoder that it's connected to may not know which way the rotary is turned.

Hi Guys,Now, with a little more time, will explain what I was looking for:Is a special switch that makes a sequence of closures on one set of contacts when turned clockwise, but not counter-clockwise. It makes a sequence of closures on another set of contacts when turned counter-clockwise.
