New NVIDIA 3D Stereo Drivers - VC WORKS!!

NVIDIA just released a new version of it's stereovision drivers, and THE VIRTUAL COCKPIT NOW WORKS IN STEREO MODE! It makes a huge, huge difference. It's hard to describe just how immersive the VC is with 3D glasses - the yolk, the throttle levers, buttons - they all pop out and give you an accurate sense of depth. There are edges on several VCs that I never knew existed until I viewed them in stereovision. Get them here: http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=driversMost importantly, you can now leave the sim in 1X zoom and have a good sense of depth, accuracy (no fish eye effects) and a good field of view (through panning). I find 1x zoom without 3d glasses to be like driving while looking through binoculars - no sense of depth. Stereovision glasses seem to cancel this effect out by providing your brain with extra depth information through the differnce in right vs. left eye images - just as in real life. The 2D cockpit used to detract from this effect, since it appears flat, and pasted onto the monitor screen - not very realistic. The VC in 3D mode makes you feel like you're inside the aircraft. Now all we need is for someone to remove the non-3d objects from the default scenery. Those of you with 3D glasses know what I'm talking about - the red/white glideslope markers on the sides of runways, for example. These objects, for whatever reason, seem not to be effected by the 3D driver, and therefore kill the depth effect. Kind of like someone waving their hand in front of one of those pattern-based, computer generated 3D images - you loose your focus. John

Don't know why you didn't see the VC properly before ... you should have done.Funny how it works differently for all, though ... they're fickle things, these specs. With the old 23.11 drivers, my VCs were fine with the 3D glasses but my 2D cockpits were rubbish (and I had all sorts of conflicts with my main drivers on two graphics cards in my system). With the new 30.82 stereo drivers (and the regular 30.82 drivers on BOTH graphics cards, which wasn't possible before - I had to put separate version drivers on each card to avoid a crash) I still get great VC, spot and tower results but now I can see many more of my 2D cockpits properly!Dunno why, but heck, now it works at least.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg

That's strange - I've never had a problem with 2D panels - old drivers or new. The ghosting effects seem to be less noticable now - but that might just be my imagination. Do you know if there is any solution to the "non 3d" scenery objects problem? It's the only thing keeping me from using 3D glasses all of the time (that, and my fear of becoming permanently cross-eyed). John

Not a clue on the 3D objects, sorry. No scenery designer, me.
