Want to make the terrain nicer...

What freeware stuff can I download to make the terrain nicer in FS2002? What is LandClass? Is it freeware? I know I can use mesh, but doesn't that kill FPS? Some ideas of where to start would be nice...Thanks, Andrew Heath[a href=http://www.duncanfuller.com/d21tracon/]Detroit TRACON[/a]THE RED WINGS RULE!http://www.duncanfuller.com/d21tracon/banner1.jpghttp://www.duncanfuller.com/d21tracon/banner2.jpg

Mesh can be hard on performance, but doesn't have to be. Most good mesh is not free however (it's a lot of work to create it properly and the data needed isn't generally free of charge (actually, for most countries it's very expensive)).Landclass changes only the texture mapping on the mesh. It can make a difference but I don't think you'll notice is being much more real unless you know what the area looks like in real life. Most good stuff there is also not free. It too can have a performance impact.

Andrew, you could give the Eddie Denney FS2000 mesh a try. It is free and not as high res as his new mesh... The best mesh currently is from FSGenesis (US) and LAGO (Europe), but they are both payware (although not too expensive) and hih res, so yes, they will effect fps.The old Eddie Denney mesh is not too hard on fps, but only covers the US and Alaska. Since it is free I'd advise to install it and give it a try... see how it looks and how it performs on your particular machine. There is also other free mesh available, especially for Europe. Do an 'extended search' in the library for Raimundo Taburet, Gaia Mesh, Thierry Pignot for instance. Hope this helps,Francois :-outta Francois :-wave

"At home in the wild"[link:avsim.com/alaska/alaska_052.htm|Don's Alaskan Bush Charters]"Beavers Lead the Way"[link:www.avsim.com/vfr_center/mainpages/vfr_flights_main_page.htm]VFR Flight Center]"Looking Good Outside"

http://avsim.com/hangar/air/bfu/logo70.gifhttp://www.fssupport.com/images/moose2.gif

________________________Francois A. I use the LAGO meshes for Europe with FSLandClass (both payware). I have to say that new LandClass files makes a huge difference in believability. As well as supposedly being more accurate (I'm not actually sure this is the case) what they do is remove the 'tiled' look you see in many areas with the default textures. Although I love the high res LAGO meshes, if I had to choose between LandClass files and Meshes, I'd go for the LandClass files.Have funFinn
