The SIAI-Marchetti SF.260 and FPS

Recommended Posts

I've read so much good stuff about the 260 that I had to go for it; but it seems to be killing my frame rates. Lots of stuttering, etc. I run a 1.8GHZ system with 512MB RAM and a GeForce 2 MX400 with 30.82 drivers ... surely I should be OK with that?Am I right, is she heavy on the processor? Because I'm not having fun yet, boo hoo. And yes, I do run EndItAll etc., and have read the manual. My sound is cutting in and out too. Would someone be so kind as to paste in their SOUND entry from a FS2002.CFG that works!? Thanks. Ever since I changed my settings to accommodate Erick Cantu's suggestions the other day, I seem to have difficulties.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg

You are wrong! :)I run Athlon 800 Mhz, 384 SDRAM, GeForce 3 Ti200 and have no problems what so ever. I did put "low quality gauges" in VC, but it's still very readible. Outside of the plane is not frame rate killer as well. :)Most of the settings in sim are full.

OK, Ches, thanks. Glad it works for you. I have a system problem somewhere, then: weird, as the default Cessna runs smooth as silk in the same environment, but the Marchetti seems to slow everything down. I'll run a few more tests using other aircraft.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg

It might be your video card. Many people with GeForce 2 MX have performance issues with most of addon aircraft.

GF2 MX is the worst Nvidia card still in production and it's the weak link your otherwise powerfull system - get a GF3Ti500 or a GF4 if you can afford it and all your problems will go away.

HI Mark,We are certain that there is a system glitch in your setup. The reason? On my 1.4 Athlon with 512 RAM and a comparitively "old" Geforce GTS2 video card, with detonator 12.41 drivers, I consistently get 34 frames per second in Virtual Cockpit mode, with 2x FSAA and mipmapping enabled, full texture quality and modest but reasonable mesh and complexity settings. On some systems turning gauge quality to "low" improves performance significantly in VC mode, with the advantage that we believe our gauges are almost as crisp with this setting as some aircraft are with "high" quality enabled.I've seen a few posts about disabling AGP texturing lately. Personally, ENABLING agp texturing in the DX dialogue settings actually DOUBLES my frame rates. So there is no hard and fast rule.I am quite convinced that on most systems you should see no stuttering at all with the SF260 and on five systems we tested in development, all different, we achieved roughly similar performance to comparable defaults and other addon aircraft. Finally I concur with other posts in this thread by agreeing that the MX series of Geforce cards are very inferior in performance compared to a "non" MX card. The MX series are cut down versions of the GTS and Ti series, and deliver very much slower frame rates. Despite this I feel you should get much better performance than you reported.I'm sure a bit of trouble shooting will improve things, and I do hope it does for you.Best Regards,Rob YoungRealAir Simulations

Thanks, all, and particularly, Rob, for taking the time to reply. Seems I have some work to do. My trusty old GeForce 2 has done me well and I don't have problems generally; but perhaps I'm just used to sub-par behaviour. The daft thing is that the GeForce 2 MX400 32MB Twinview I use by choice seems actually faster than the card my rig shipped with: a GeForce 2 MX 100/200 64MB. I have them both installed, using the 30.82 drivers, and use the former for FS and the latter for FSNav. I'm beginning to understand that the proprietory systems (mine is a Compaq) do NOT ship with state-of-the-art hardware.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg

Since I run sliders quite high and use mountainous areas, I've took the Marchetti up to southern Idaho, where it's rather "flat". This gives my fps of upper 20's to upper 30's for my "aerobatic" type of playing around.L.AdamsonAthlon 1900XPGeforce3Ti5001600*1200*32 res.
