Number of planes

Recommended Posts

Does FS 2002 have a limit on the number of planes you can have in your aircraft folder? I also race the NASCAR simulators and they limit such things as numbers of tracks and cars you can have, so I wondered if FS had similar limitations.KP

I'm at about 5 Gig in my aircraft, gauges, and scenery directories. The only real drawback is that FS2K2 takes longer and longer to load as the number of aircraft I add increases.

There are two limitations in FS2K2 that you have to be aware of:1. The aircraft.cfg file cannot exceed appr. 32 Kbyte (at least for Windows98SE, don't know about XP).Which means that you can have only a limited number of variations of an aircraft in one aircraft.cfg file. But you can always split them up of course.2. The number of scenery layers (scenery.cfg file) is limited to appr. 330.Rob

I doubt FS2k2 has a limit, but as another user mentioned earlier, as the number of aircraft and scenery files increases, FS2k2 will take a tad longer to load.Ryan-Flightpro08 :-coolVATSIM Pilot/ControllerZLA ARTCC Controller 1 (C-1)SAN TRACON Lead [link:www.taxiwaysigns.com]Taxiwaysigns.com Scenery Designer-----------------------------My "Home Made" System Specs:Intel Pentium 4 2.2GHz ProcessorTurbo Gamer ATX Mid-Tower with 420W Power SupplyEPoX 4G4A Motherboard with Intel 845G ChipsetVisiontek XTASY GeForce4 128MB Ti4600 (Det 29.42 WHQL Drivers)512MB PC2100 DDR RAM40GB Matrox 7200RPM Hard DriveWindows XP Home Edition SP1*No CPU or GPU Overclocking*3dMark2001SE Score: 11298

Rob is right regarding the scenery add-ons limitation. I've not come across the reference to the aircraft.cfg file size before but that doesn't have a direct bearing bearing on the number of additional aircraft you can add in.From what I know, and I'll be happy to stand corrected, there's been no limit to the number of add-on aircraft (or guages) you can add.

I've 724 aircraft folders to date although the subsets are many more ... probably 1500 aircraft all told. 17,639 gauges. So yes, it all loads a little slowly, but runs fine once I'm in.Scenery ... yes, that's another thing. 329 layers so far ... uh oh ... Armageddon is just around the corner.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg
