Copying FS2002 Files to a New Computer

Recommended Posts

Guest JohnN

Hi All,I'll be getting a new computer soon and will install FS2002 Pro from my disks. However, I have several add-on planes, scenery enhancements, FSNavigator, FSMETEO, etc. on my current machine that I'd like to utilize on the new one.The question is: What folders should I copy to a CD on my present machine that I can add or replace on the new installation?Your thoughts will be most appreciated.John

You'll find a number of threads on this issue if you search both here and on "the other side".The fundamental rule must be to install - and run - FS2002 on your new computer before you move anything across from your old stuff. FS2002 needs to build its database once before you confuse it. Likewise, with FSNav and FSMeteo, to make sure all the correct registry entries fall into place.Thereafter, it depends what you've got. You'll have AIRCRAFT, no doubt, so move those over. GAUGES to go with them. SCENERY? Then move those folders over and add the entries into your FS2002/SCENERY.CFG file. Other utilities and modules? Most you can transfer straight across, but be careful if you have tweaked things in your TEXTURE files with swap facilities i.e. FSClouds, or Lennart's Textures.Nothing too difficult, it just takes time. I had 23GB of stuff in my old rig ... it did take a while (yawn ....)Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg

Once you uninstall FS from your old machine, it will leave all the addons you had installed. Anything in Aircraft, Modules, Gauges, Addon Scenery, whatever. But, as Mark said above, run FS first so it biulds a database. And make sure nothing is wrong.Cheers,http://turnhead.com/dot/alex/banner-retro-cool.gif
