Valentin's Antonov An-24RV - any update for FS2K2?

Recommended Posts

That beautiful Beriev uploaded today (fsfreeware.com, I think) had me digging in the hangar for my An-24RV. Trouble is, when I converted it to FS2K2, I got a model file error. Ran MDL repair, no joy. Can't load the 'plane. The last update to the Russian Flightsim page was in May 2001. Have searched around and emailed for news, but no reply yet. Anyone have any intelligence on this one? It is/was a lovely model in FS2000 and I'd love to carry on flying her.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg

I agree with you. I miss the AN-24. Try going to www.flightsim.ru and onto the forum. OK, most of the posts are in Russian, but they're a great bunch of guys and are always happy to reply in English. You might need to learn a little Cyrillic to navigate the site, but that's only about about 5 mins work.Last I heared, a 2K2 patch was 'in the works', but they didn't promise anything.Gavin

Not familiar with Valentin's An-24, but the Tchaika sure is one sweet plane! The only gripe I have is that it handles almost like a supertanker with wings - maybe I just need to do some tweaking :-) .You know, the Beriev Be-200 (the jet-powered flying boat that was recently displayed at the ILA in Berlin) would be pretty cool, too :D !

Aha. Thanks, John. I think I'm running 2.01, but it didn't do the trick on my XP unit. I've emailed Dave Parsons (author) so we'll see .. but if you could be bothered to email me your repaired model file (an24rv_2000.mdl) in the meantime I'd be very grateful. I could try that to see if it works.MABeaumont@aol.comMark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg

JohnFirstly, thank you for sending your model file so promptly. Secondly, thank you again, because it works! Me happy camper, you nice chap.We both run Windows XP Home with SP1 and I thought I was using MDL Repair 2.01 ... but it didn't work for me. Ah well, I'm there now, and my An-24 is airborne once more. DA! She's flies beautifully ... I had forgotten just HOW good a flight model that is.The default panel remains excellent for FS2K2 and there was an update with more modern gauges (why, I ask? I prefer the original one) by Umberto Noto. There is an alternative panel available by Marcel Felde which is also great, and has room to put in the new AI radar with a bit of tweaking.Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontEDIT: Gavin, thanks for the link to the Ruskie site, also. Mine was an old one and out of date, yours is The Business .. a couple of lovely aircraft there. Note, above, that John's model file worked for me to update the aircraft ... want it too?Dominik ... yes, you're not alone ... she's a heavy old bird. Beautiful gear action though! I've whacked in the waterland effects and she looks great on takeoff now. She's stable enough but yes, heavy to turn. Shan't bother to tweak her myself ... she works.http://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg

Whoops, sorry, Gavin .... missed your post. Anyway it's done now. Have sent you the model file and my revised AIRCRAFT.CFG file to save you running her through FSEdit if you have not done so already. What's more I always add in EFFECTS and a RADIO change after running FSEdit to make sure all works as it should. FSEdit doesn't cope with that and so I add the sections in for all converted FS2000 planes - most successfully.Happy flying. She's great.Mark "Dark Moment" BeaumontEDIT: John, thanks again for sending the file in the first place. I DO run MDLRepair 2.01 ... I checked with the author who was very helpful ... but it didn't convert the file for me. Bloody typical of my misbehaving system though, that is. It's got a mind of its own. Wish I still had Windows 98SE!http://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg
