SF-260 Lights question

Hi Rob,first of all you already know that I love this plane. However one thing I do not understand. The gauges backlighting is coupled to the landing lights. I do not know but I guess there is technical reason for the coupling. However wouldn't it make more sense to e.g. couple it to the Nav lights? I really hate to fly with my landing lights on all the time, especially in rain or clouds.Alex

HI Alex,Sean Moloney is offline at the moment because he has just moved out of Sidney, but when he gets back online in a couple of days he will have more technical info. But for now here is my less technical information.Backlighting of gauges is quite a difficult thing to achieve in FS2002. There are only so many ways available of implementing extra things beyond what the defaults give us. Sean had to link the Backlighting to the Landing Lights because there are a limited number of busses to tie the lighting functions to. Also there is no specific key press in FS2002 which says "turn on gauge backlighting". Thus the most efficient way was to buss the gauges to the landing lights. The reason is because it is very easy to switch ON the global lights ("L") then simply switch off the cockpit floodlights ("Shift L")to see the backlighting in all its glory. I take your point about tying to the nav lights but I'm pretty sure Sean tried this and it wasn't possible to do.Since the landing lights do not (on my system anyway) light up anything except runway surfaces, you shouldn't notice them from inside the cockpit and from outside there is just the landing light bitmap showing on the nose. This is similar to the SHIFT L to open the aircraft doors on Yannick's, Fred's and my Falcon 50. We had no other busses to which the doors could be attached.Hope that explains things to your satisfaction.Best Regards,Rob YoungRealAir Simulation
