300th Free Texture Released

Recommended Posts

Hi Happy Simmers,Well the magic number, 300, (Magic to me anyway) has been reached - my 300th Free Flight Sim texture has been posted to my site.It is nothing spectacular - more a personal Golden livery for Mike Stones B727 aircraft - I saw it as a fitting tribute to Mike to dedicate my 300th aircraft texture to one of his aircraft as his great work has undoubtedly received the majority of my tinkering over the months. The Numbers*** 300 textures in 12 monthsI was just checking the numbers tonight - FS2002 was released in September 2001 (I think - as that is the date of the FS2002.exe file - can't be sure about that because it seems like forever ago). But that makes just over 12 months of it being available to me - 300 textures in 12 months implies that I have turned out an average of 25 new textures each month or an average of more than 6 texture per week. That is almost 1 every day. Wow - I must be tinkering too hard I think. There is a little cheating in the numbers because I include 17 textures from CFSII in this total but I class them as belonging as the textures I did for CFSII was my first attempts at metallic looking textures - really very primitive silver things but different from the existing textures - and still fortunately popular. However, there is also 66 textures that I have done during the period that have been personal gifts to many simmers who have requested something special just for them and a very small number of Virtual Airline liveries (payers).*** Over 100,000 downloadMy site statistics only go back to 7 Jul 2002 and record that I had over 58,000 downloads of textures for the period 7 Jul 2002 through til today - my guestimate for the previous 9 months (I know that in January 2002 I had served over 35,000) would have been at least 50,000 so I guess that I have provide over 100,000 free textures to the simming community.*** Over 600mb of information stored on my site.My site is now getting massively out of hand now with over 600mb of files virtually dedicated to Flight Simming with less than 40mb of the stuff on my site being related to my personal and business dealings on the net.Well good people - I think that overall the last 12 months have been great fun - I have made a great deal of new friends and a few adversaries but generally it has been a pleasure servicing the Flight Sim community. Therefore, I would like to thank you all for your support, nice e-mails and occasional nice forum comments. In conclusion - I offer particular thanks to people like Mike Stone and the many others who have given me the privilege of playing with their aircraft which I appreciate greatly as I am aware how difficult and complex the creation of these aircraft are and to give someone else the rights to tinker with their prize works is not easy. The 300th livery is available at:http://www.gjsmith.com/textures/b727.htm Anyway simmers - as I always say - happy simmingGarry J. Garry,Wow, 300! Sit down and take a break! That's a lot of painting. Those of us who appreciate such things are very grateful for your work. And those, like me, who do a repaint now and then are quite in awe!keep it up!
