What is it with installer-based addons lately that have the potential to hose your system?? If you're gonna have an exe installer, make sure it works on all platforms!

Same thing here. I got it yesterday before the warning message. In all fainess to Keith Kile the author, I have been in contact with him and he seems sincerely sorry for the trouble and is doing all he can to fix the problem, get a working version out and help. I am sure though that once this is sorted out that we will find this to be a usefull program. These problems are more directly related to the installer software than anything Keith did intentionally. He mentioned in an email to me that, "Install shield likes to package these DLLs right from the build machines'windows/system32 directory." If your operating system is not the same as the packaging one it could mean problems. Good old MS "Wizards" always trying to help. After the install, I got a message that I needed to reinstall windows and then my machine locked up. I had to figure it out and using dos mode, find an older copy of msvcrt.dll and reinstall windows again. I finally got it sorted out but what a mess."What is it with installer-based addons lately" My feelings exactly Ryan, I always get a feeling of dread when I see one. They always want to add something it thinks I need even if I have a newer version of what it want's to install.Installers make me nervous, especially when they say they need to reboot your computer. Unless it really needs to be installed give me a Zip anyday.

That's why I like .zip files. :-)Ryan-Flightpro08 :-cool VATSIM Pilot/ControllerZLA ARTCC Controller 1 (C-1)SAN TRACON Lead [link:www.taxiwaysigns.com]Taxiwaysigns.com Scenery Designerhttp://members.cox.net/santracon/images/san_logo.jpg-----------------------------My "Home Made" System Specs:Intel Pentium 4 2.2GHz ProcessorTurbo Gamer ATX Mid-Tower with 420W Power SupplyEPoX 4G4A Motherboard with Intel 845G ChipsetVisiontek XTASY GeForce4 128MB Ti4600 (Det 30.30 Drivers)512MB PC2100 DDR RAM40GB Matrox 7200RPM Hard DriveWindows XP Home Edition SP1*No CPU or GPU Overclocking*3dMark2001SE Score: 11298

Hi there,The problem are not the installers but how the developer defines the installation script upon which the installation package is built. Almost all installation makers offers the ability to check the OS and DLL version prior overwritting. Also, if your application doesn't use many Dynamic Link Libraries, in C and Delphi you can use Static Linking Option assenble them all into the executable file. There is also a tool to this with Visual Basic applications which are the most problematic because they rely on a whole bunch of DLLs.Cheers;)

>Agreed. That's why I like .zip files.Problem with zip files though, they are limited. You can't properly register controls, make registry settings, place files in their proper places in the system folder, etc. You really can't expect the user to do those things manually. Also you can't do any piracy protection from a zip file.An installable .exe most of the time is really the only way.Ernie.

Very true Ernie. I guess if a .exe file is done right, it's the only way to go as far as registry settings are concerned. But if not's not done right, then we know what happens. ;-)Ryan-Flightpro08 :-cool VATSIM Pilot/ControllerZLA ARTCC Controller 1 (C-1)SAN TRACON Lead [link:www.taxiwaysigns.com]Taxiwaysigns.com Scenery Designerhttp://members.cox.net/santracon/images/san_logo.jpg-----------------------------My "Home Made" System Specs:Intel Pentium 4 2.2GHz ProcessorTurbo Gamer ATX Mid-Tower with 420W Power SupplyEPoX 4G4A Motherboard with Intel 845G ChipsetVisiontek XTASY GeForce4 128MB Ti4600 (Det 30.30 Drivers)512MB PC2100 DDR RAM40GB Matrox 7200RPM Hard DriveWindows XP Home Edition SP1*No CPU or GPU Overclocking*3dMark2001SE Score: 11298

at least if it must be an .exe give us transparency: list out what it installs and where, so we can forego if we're uncomfortable.one of my downloads in the last few days replaced a sound file I had spent ages tweaking, and somehow the [modules] section of my .cfg is completely missing, so i'm getting the fssound.dll error message again. Then to make it weirder, my fsuipc version went back to .76 instead of the 2.91 i had put in there.??? serves me right for doing a bunch of .exe's and not checking things after each one.mp

Is their a fix for this if you have already installed WeatherCenter and have encountered a problem? I cannot open a whole host of programs now (mostly games) including FS2002 and CFS2. I get an error message which says something like: "MSVCRT.DLL is linked to missing export NTDLL.DLL:RtlGetNTVersionNumbers"Anyone have any suggestions?
