Best Tri-Star Panel?

Recommended Posts

Guest jase439

Just wondering if anyone has a personal recommendation for a 3-engine panel (specifically something in line with an MD-11 or L-1011 or maybe even a DC-10). I used to use Steffan Ahlberg's panel for 98/2000, but it's a bit dated now - looking for something a bit more 'with the times'.Thanks,J

This used to be an old favorite of mine. Is it still restricted to 1024x768 though?

So a search on V. Sokolov. His panel is basically a rework of David Randolph's which, in turn, is a rework of Darim Rahmatallah's original (FFG) ... but it's the business for Tristars. Works fine in FS2002.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg

I had a look at the latest version posted on Alain's site - this panel is still bound by the 1024x768 restriction. I haven't run at that resolution in over 3 years. This appears to be the most complete panel around, however - it's an unfortunate limitation and not one I'm willing to live with. I'll probably stick with Richard Probst's 727 panel for now even if it is rather contrived in a DC-10/MD-11/L-1011.JPS. What is Bill's website addy?

Your choice, J, of course. But personally I couldn't bear to fly my Tristars with the wrong panel when there are good L-1011 cockpits to be had. Even David Durst's old Tristar panel at least gives the feel of being in one.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg

I know. I'm less of a die-hard with the L1011 as I am with my 7x7's. I've got a long ways to go and alot of tweaking to do before my tri-stars are anywhere near up to snuff. There's alot to like about Mike Stone's visual model, but the panel (or lack thereof) and FDE need help. The FDE, in particular, is troublesome...she flies like a rocket at low altitudes - even at MTOW (heaven help you if you depart with anything LESS than a full set of tanks). The thrust curve at altitude does improve some, but it's a wild and crazy ride on the roll out to about 10K - feels like the Millenium Falcon (anyone happen to catch that someone uploaded a Millenium Falcon for FS2K2 to AVSIM last week? *lol*)I would love to see some pictures of Bill's MD-11 panel if I could find some (or his website for thatter). mat

Mark,I'm now going to recant ;-) I found that panel "bundle" w/ the Sokolav FDE over at "the other site". *HUGE* improvement. I threw in some DC-10 sound effects by Aaron Swindle and I've got a whole new tri-star experience. I really like this panel and the default FDE hands-down. I noticed the aircraft lighting has been tweaked too for accuracy. Thanks for this great recommendation, Mark.J

LOL! Good man, I knew you would like it if you found it.How all you need are real sounds. These two FS2000 sets are great: the first by Matt Ukena based on earlier work by Achim Buerger, the second option by Ryuji Ozawa.Large files but, epic and awesome! Now all we need is for someone to get that 'ole Concorde INS working in FS2002. I fitted it to all my Tristars in FS2000, but it crashes FS2002, dammit.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitak.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/reds.htmlhttp://www.swiremariners.com/cxkaitakv3.jpg

> I really like this panel and the default FDE hands-down.That should read: "I really like this panel and the FDE that comes with it OVER the default one provided by Mike Stone"I'll check out the sound package(s) you mention. Thanks again.J

HiIf you want to see screenshots of Bill G's upcomming MD-11 panel, go to www.fsnordic.net then go to the discussion section, then the ERJ-145 panel support page and then have a look around. They are there. I've seen them. And it's looking just as good as you would expect from one of the world's greatest panel designers.Nothing much to do with Tristars though.Cheers!Gavin

Well - let's see - as many here have indicated, the Alain MD-11 panel is top-notch, even if "limited" to 1024x768.The Steffan Ahlberg is probably the best DC-10 for FS2K2 (Eric Ernst's DC-10 was great for FS98).Other than the V. Sokolov panel, there really isn't anything for the L10-11. I've been trying unsuccessfully to get "The Pilot's L10-11" package to work in FS2K2, without success. It is by far the best L10-11 panel (and total package) out there, but it is payware. They include three different panels - the -100, -250 and the digital tape gauged -500 panel, with Capt, 1st Off'r, and F.E. panels and offer several (about 2 dozen, IIRC) different liveries.
