November 1, 200223 yr It was quite a sight at the Dupage Airport in West Chicago today as a 7-27 commercial airplane touched down. The 727 is the largest airplane ever to land at the west suburban general aviation airport.. The landing, however was planned. The retired airplane was a donation from American Airlines for the new Aviation Professional Education Center at the Dupage Airport. The school is located on the grounds of the airfield and opened its doors to a class of 30 students on Monday. The school will train aviation maintenance technicians. Don Ladik is a pilot and was instrumental in securing the private donations needed to make the center a reality. He says the students of the new aviation education center will be market ready for large commercial airline companies or the military. He says the 727 will help in preparing the students for a good career in aviation. Ladik predicts nearly 300 trained aviation mechanics will be needed to fill vacancies over the next decade. The students are from the College of Dupage. Similar Aviation Education centers are up and running in Romeoville and Rockford
