December 13, 200223 yr I just got a new Samtron Flat Screen 19" Monitor but I really need someone to explain me, please, how resolution and refresh rates work.Is 1600x1200x32 (the highest resolution my monitor supports) the best? Should I use this resolution for FS2K2? What about the refresh rate? I Regards, Hugo Bravo LPPT
December 13, 200223 yr It's all your personal preference as long as resolution and refresh rate is under the monitors' limit.Of course as high as resolution, the better the quality, and the slower the FPS.My crappy compaq 17 inch monitor supports only 1152*864 so that's what I run it atbut if it supported 1600x1200 I would defenately run at that resolution.
December 13, 200223 yr 60Hz refresh......OUCH my eyes! my eyes! LOLJust use whatever is comfortable with your eyes. On my 17", I use 800x600x32 bit at 85Hz refresh in FS2002 and in XP. On a 19", I would likely go up to 1024x768x32 or maybe 1280x1024x32. When you set refresh, try to stay above 75Hz (75Hz = monitor draws the screen 75 times a sec) or you will see a lot of flicker until your eyes get used to it.
December 13, 200223 yr Yeah change your refresh rate. At 1280X1024 you should be able to get at least 75 Hz. Most 19"s support that resolution at 85 Hz. Anything below 75 Hz, you'll strain your eyes.Cheers!Elmer
December 13, 200223 yr Author Thank you for your help. I am now running FS2K2 and my desktop at 1280x1024 - 75 Hz.Why is that some programs, like FS2K2, start off-center? I mean, do I have to adjust the image position with the monitor controls every time I run them? The FS2K2 start-up menu is not displayed at the resolution you run the sim at, is it? Thanks again.Hugo Regards, Hugo Bravo LPPT
December 14, 200223 yr You are right, it is not, I belive the start-up is 800x600.Monitor size settings should be kept in memory of monitor acordignly to resolution and refreshrateso once you adjust the settings next time you shoudn't have to.
December 15, 200223 yr Georgi's right. Take a few minutes and go through your resolutions at your desktop, one at a time. You'll set your resolution, each color depth setting, and refresh rate.Start with 800x600, with a Color Quality of 16 bit. Jump into the Advanced page and select your Monitor tab. Set the frequency as high as your monitor can handle at this resolution. Hit the Apply button. Now adjust the monitor so the Desktop just fills the screen. Good, your done for that combination. Finish off 800x600 by selecting 32-bit color, but don't for get to check the monitor frequency!Once you go through each combonation, your monitor should remember it from now on. So no matter what game your in, or what resolution your at, you'll visually get the most out of your investment.Have fun,
