Latest video drivers for Radeon PCI Express X850 XT PE?

Featured Replies

I've had the good fortune to acquire a new system featuring a 256MB PCI Express x16 ATI Radeon X850 XT PE video card.QUESTION: I'm trying to find out where to get the latest drivers for this video card. The current version is 6.14.10.6490 that I downloaded from Dell Computer's website. I checked out ATI's website, but it wasn't clear to me whether the latest Radeon drivers apply to this video card, so I thought I check with the hardware gurus here first.Thanks.-- WaltFlying FS9.1 at 1600x1200x32Intel Pentium 4 640 HT 3.20GHzWindows XP Pro SP21GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz (2x512M)256MB PCI Express x16 ATI Radeon X850 XT PEDirectX 9.0cViewSonic P95f+ 19 inch Ultrabrite CRT MonitorSound Blaster Audigy2 ZSCreative I-Trigue 2.1 3300 SpeakersMS ForceFeedback 2 joystick

""6.14.10.6490"" you have the 4.10 drivers. 6.1(""4.10"").6490 I'm currently running the Omega equivalent to the ATI 3.10 drivers. I tried a couple of the 4.** drivers and didn't like em'. Went back to these. They work fine and look really good.

I'm awaiting delivery of a Dimension 8400 to replace my trusty 8200. Here's how I'll have it configured:3.0 GHz P4 HT2GB DDR2 400MHz2 x 160GB SATA (RAID 1) for OS and apps36GB Raptor 10,000RPM for Page fileATI X800XL 256MBI figure/hope putting the page file on a small fast disk would be worth the added expense ($90).I read alot of good things about the 800XL and can't wait to see the difference from my old system:2.4GHz P41GB SDRAMATI 9800 ProAny thoughts?http://home.earthlink.net/~pmhemm/Hemm_Signature.jpg

Is the 800XL AGP? or PCI Express? PCI Express is supposedly better, which is what I got.I assume the Raptor is SATA as well? That's a good idea. It should help with all of your media-intensive apps.My system came with a single SATA 7500 RPM 250 GB hard drive. FS2004 still pauses occasionally (what with gobs of addon scenery and traffic and sliders maxed out), but nothing like it did before with my old Pentium 4 2.0 GHz/128MB ATI Radeon 9600 Pro system. My new system runs FS2004 like a dream!-- WaltFlying FS9.1 at 1600x1200x32Intel Pentium 4 640 HT 3.20GHzWindows XP Pro SP21GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz (2x512M)256MB PCI Express x16 ATI Radeon X850 XT PEDirectX 9.0cViewSonic P95f+ 19 inch Ultrabrite CRT MonitorSound Blaster Audigy2 ZSCreative I-Trigue 2.1 3300 SpeakersMS ForceFeedback 2 joystick

Walt,I have the PCI Express version. One program I want to try is O&O Defrag v8 (www.oo-software.com). Their defrag program can sort your files based on folder and file names so all files in a directory are physically together on the disk. For huge scenery products like Megascenery, this means the drive heads are not scanning all over the disk to read the next little scenery tile. The reviews I've read are all very positive. $45 is a bit high for a single-purpose utility, but if it helps with FS then I'll try it.Peter
