December 30, 200520 yr I have two new cards, PNY 6600 and BFG 6800 GTOC. I built a brand new system, ASUS A8V Delux MB, AMD 3500+, 1GB DDR 3200 Dual Channel Kingston, and 1 Maxtor 40G HD. I already run a 500wt PS and 2 old 15" monitors (ASTVision7L) and Viewsonic, running Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade SP2. Yes, I know... I have a 19" LCD coming soon, but have been stuck on this problem. Here's the problem. After turning on switches or rotating knobs in MSFS and then hovering over any instrument giving a panel id popup, those switches or knobs (and even instrumentation) will momentarily appear back to their previous position untill the panel id goes away. Also if you open a popup window and then close it and then hover over a panel id instrument, and that id comes up to tell you what that instrument is, whatever popup you opened, will appear again while the id is being dislayed, but only below your mouse cursor. Other than that, the clarity is excellent, just some minor flickers that I hope to resolve with a new LCD monitor. Now, I did have another graphics issue with the 6800 card, but it was sent back to BFG, and it was replaced, and came back to me still having this problem. Both cards are doing this. Here's what I have done..... Updated BIOS 1014, Board drivers 5.04 (tried 4.56), ran every set of drivers from Nvidia that supports each card. I have even tried changing every setting in the menu one at a time. I use Driver Cleaner Pro in Safe Mode, have removed double entries out of FS9.cfg, have tried a Clean Install of Windows and MSFS. Tried every monitor in the house, unfortunately all are old 15" CRTs. Tried runing only one monitor.MSFS settingsRender to Text-OFFTransform-OFFAnti-Aliasing-OFFFiltering-TrilinearMIP-3Also have an old system, Gigabyte GA-7VAXP, AMD 3000+, 512MB DDR 3200, which I tried the 6600 on, and same problem. My old TI4200 runs fine on the Gigabyte board. I have seen these cards work together with these boards in these forums, so I know somthing is wrong. But I can't figure out what. What am I missing here?Thanks- James
January 1, 200620 yr That seems very odd. I run the 78.01 drivers on my 6600GT and have the following FS settingsRender to Text-ONTransform-ONAA-OFF (within FS, set to 4x in Nvidia control panel)Filtering-Trilinear (set to 4x AF in Nvidia control panel)MIP-4With these settings I have no problems at all, though I do not run a multi monitor setup, just one 19" CRT. When was the last time you formatted and reinstalled Windows?
January 1, 200620 yr WEll, I give a few drivers and settings a try, then I wipe it out and start from scratch again. I format the HD, and since I am working with Windows XP HOME Upgrade, I have to install Windows ME, then install the Windows XP HOME SP2 upgrade. Next I reflash the BIOS, then install the updated board drivers, then the card drivers. I have tried running the one monitor, with no difference. My next thought is possibly because I am going from ME, to XP SP2 Upgrade, and I do not have a FULL install. Do you think there may be an issue there? I did try to run FS9 under Windows ME once, but I couldn't get a real test out of it, because the problem doesn't occur with default planes as much as the more complicated purchased addons, like Captain Sim's C-130 or PSS-777, and even some of the freeware downloaded aircraft with overheads. And ME gives the frantic 'out of memory' error before I can get the problem to occur, otherwise I believe it works in ME. If I were to get the full version of Windows XP Pro, should I stay away from SP2? All this system is used for is MSFS. Do you think any of that plays a role in the issue? Thanks for helping out,James
January 1, 200620 yr I think going from ME to XP is your problem right there. I personally use XP with SP2 and have no problems, if you do a clean install of XP with service pack 2 you will be fine. Windows ME was a bad OS and trying to upgrade could have serious issues like you are having right now. Go and get the full version of XP, you will save yourself a ton of trouble.

Every applicable Forceware driver, hacked drivers, eVga's drivers. I've reinstalled XP...you name it. It wont go away.I use a clean XP install, with SP2 I slipstreamed onto the cd.AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Venice) No o/cASUS A8N-E1GB (2x 512) Kingston PC3200eVga GeForce 6800GS PCIExCreative Audigy 2 ZSI'm going to try and capture it with Fraps...I'm about to give up.-Cory Crabtree -Cory Crabtree
January 2, 200620 yr No, Fraps wouldnt capture it. I did get screenshots, though.1: Normal shot.2: Mouseover the nav radio...tooltip displayed. You can see an overlay displayed below the tooltip. Its from earlier in the flight when I was still on 7L at LAS.3: Kneeboard displayed. The overlay is pretty obvious. Its also from the same instance earlier in the flight. I can move the kneeboard up or down and the overlay follows it, as evident in #4.4: Pulled the Kneeboard down.:-(I'm not sure what else I can try.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137446.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137447.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137448.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137449.jpg -Cory Crabtree
January 2, 200620 yr Thanks Crab for posting those shots.... That's my problem alright. I can't capture anything at the moment, that system is all taken apart, because I don't know what to do either. I thought of trading it all in for PCI express, but obviously that's what you have. What version of XP are you running? As I understand, the difference between Home and Profesional is just that Profesional is more security stuff, but I do not know. I need to get the Full version of one or the other, either way. And I have 3 machines here, can't get either card to work on, my frustration is beyond belief.James

January 2, 200620 yr Do any of you guys out there have a 6800GS working 100% in FS?-Cory -Cory Crabtree
January 3, 200620 yr Short answer: turn off tooltips in the MSFS general settings.I slayed this dragon on my 6800 Ultra with 78.01 drivers by going into the nVidia driver Performance Settings tab and setting AntiAliasing to "Application Controlled" and turning AA on from inside FS. Lots of old wisdom says its faster/better to let the vid driver do it, but with recent drivers, it was causing the phantom screen artifact anytime a tool tip became active.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case

January 3, 200620 yr Plus, there are some gauges which you need tooltips to read settings on, ie Captain Sim's pressurization cabin rate. And it still occurs with the panel popups.

Jagged egdes all over the place. Pretty much renders the card useless. I also tried it at only 2x on the card, and the problem still exists. Only on Application Controlled does it seem to go away. So...Cory, how about any utilities like Rivatuner http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163 ? I have never used anything like that before, so I don't have the experience to know if that may offer a solution.
