should i go athlon 64 x2 3800+ or athlon 64 4000+?

hi there,me again. just one simple question: wich is better concerning framerates? the athlon 64 x2 3800+ (dual core) or the single core 64 4000+? i saw a framerete test where the 4000+ was about 10-15 fps better then the x2 3800+... i have not more money for a better cpu so i have to choose between these two. i want to run fs9 with several addons together like traffic, weather, pmdg 747 and sceneries like mega airport frankfurt and want to have a playable framerate of about 20-25 minimum. is this possible with one of these cpu`s together with the specs posted below? i know that fsx will perhaps support dual core, but i want a good system now for fs9 and thinking about an upgrade later. other specs:-msi nvidia 7800gt 256mb-1024mb corsair ddr ram-samsung sp2504c, 250gb, s-ata2, ncq

I went with the single 4000 and am very pleased. I had the same decision to make as you. You will not get any faster for the price then the 4000. I do plan to most likely upgrade though when Vista comes out if required to take advantage of the new operating system.

FS9 will not benifit from the dual core 3800+...A faster single core processor would be my choice...The 4000+ is SWEET!!I have a 4000+ system also...4000+, BFG6800Ultra OC, 1gb Mushkin High Perf Ram...I lock the frames at 30....It does a very good job of holding that...I think the 4000+ would come closer to meeting your goals than the 3800+...Then if you feel the need to upgrade in a year or so...the really hot 939 processors will have come down in price with the introduction of AM2 stuff...I'm going to go dual core also..Later...I'm going to hold out for now as I'm happy with the both the 4000+ and FX-57...Kinda waiting to see weather I should go for a 4800+ or FX-60 if the prices change allot...or just make the switch to the new AM2 platform later this year...Good Luck with your Decision...Have Fun!!

Buy x2 3800+ and overclock it to 4000+ levels. 2.4Ghz is easy with a x2 3800+. You will miss dual core functionality with FSX.Regards,

Unless you REALLY need to upgrade now, I would wait 6 to 8 months. We'll be much closer to Vista and FSX at that time and should have even a better idea of the real requirements. Also at that time, CPUs you are looking at now will be less expensive and/or the money you are looking to spend now will buy you more then.Exactly what I'm doing now. -dave

In addition to that, if you wait until after FSX releases, you may be able to get the lowdown on whether or not a dual-core processor will help with Flight Simulator X. Although it's not a benefit for FS9, dual-core has been mentioned in the promotional materials for FS10, and that alone may make it worth the wait - Perhaps a slower processing dual core chip would perform better than single-core faster chip? We won't know until farther down the road. I'm waiting too - to let prices fall (and/or faster technologies to release), and to see more precicely what to expect with FSX.-Greg
