AMD Opteron instead of Athlon ??

Hi,I have a S939 mobo and there are no S939 dual core Athlons available anymore x( Currently I have an Athlon 3500+ but would like to upgrade to a dual core processor.There are however still S939 Opteron processors available. Is that something to consider? What are the differences with an Athlon?EDIT:Never mind my question.A Opteron S939 can't be put in an Athlon S939 mobo. Darn.

Egbert dont know what mobo you have, but if you have a AsRock you can buy a bridge and convert your current 939 to AM2.

I don't know where you heard that an Opteron cant be put in an Athlon S939 mobo. I have my Opty 170 in an ASUS A8N-E and it booted right up with no BIOS update or reinstallation of Windows. It is now overclocked to 2.9ghz and is on par with a stock core 2 duo 6400, you should consider it. I get 20-25 fps in FSX with my 6800GS and sliders medium. The difference with an Athlon is that Opterons generally use higher quality parts so they use less power and so produce less heat which means better overclocking if you're into that. However, if you don't plan on overclocking, dont bother with this upgrade. Marc Beck
