Intel Q6600 CPU- question on install

Recommended Posts

I currently have an older AMD 4800+ X2 CPU, and when I installed it I had to download a driver from AMD, plus a hotfix for WinXP that wasn't available in the normal WinXP updates. I'm about to install a Q6600 Intel, and am wondering if anyone has experience, or has a link to, any special items that I need to be aware of when installing the new CPU (beyond a simple XP install and applying all current updates (including SP2) to it.Thanks- Bruce.

Hey Bruce,Go through the regular Microsoft Update. Should you have any issues these are advisable to be installed (if they didn't already got installed through regular update) on Intel multiple core systems.[a href=http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=C2AB5A48-8240-4934-BBD8-34FB8A0FCE3B&displaylang=en]KB896256[/a] [a href=http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2690495F-C21E-45BC-AE0F-5452B75283D0&displaylang=en]KB936357[/a] regards,

Hi Davis,Thanks, I will save this info. I see that you didn't recommend the WinXPdualcorehotfix.exe that I found when installing the 4800+, does this mean that it's no longer needed? Thanks again Davis, I really appreciate all your help with my PC.Bruce.
