Overclocking question?

Recommended Posts

A question for anyone with socket 939 overclocking knowledge - would there be any difference (and would I notice it) between the following processors:AMD X2 4800+ overclocked to 3.0GHz running fairly hot but stableVS.AMD Opteron 185 also overclocked to 3.0GHzThe rest of the system would be the same as my signature below... My thoughts are that there might be some since (correct me if I'm wrong) the Opty should run a little cooler and has a higher multi (might help my RAM a little) since it started at 2.6GHz stock rather than 2.4GHz for the 4800+... In terms of FS use, this machine will only be running FS9 for the foreseeable future - I intend a major upgrade in about 12 months but just cannot afford it right now. I could make this upgrade quite cheaply by buying the new chip from the US and selling the old one second hand here in the Netherlands or in the UK - the crazy exchange rate as to be good for something!Geoff

Thanks for the info - could you tell me how hot the cpu is running under load (eg in FS) and what settings / voltages etc you are using to get to your 117% - interested to see how closely they match what I have on the 4800+. Please say what method you use to determine the temps so I don't get confused with offsets!Cheers,Geoff
