Polar Route Question

Hi,does anyone know, how Polar Routes are working ?Is it like NAT tracks, everyday a new route ?Or are there fixed routes ?Would appreciate any help !ThanksBen_eddt

Hi,I'm not a pilot, so I may be wrong, but from what I gather, polar routes are new each day (depending on weather and winds) and are not fixed routes for the same reason and thanks to less traffic.It seems that they are pretty much company specific routes. Since there is less traffic there, planes can fly with less restrictions.Hope this helps,Francois

Hi,Try a search on this forum, there may be some routes there, I'm not sure. Otherwise, I don't think you will something similar to the NAT routes, as they are specific to airlines (each airline may alter it a bit depending on the way they operate their planes) and these routes changes significantly depending on the winds.Francois

Hi Ben,Polar routes are not published like the NATs or PACOTs, so you can just file the route you want. Here's an example of a Polar route (I believe it was KLAX-UUEE by an Aeroflot B763):... Ben,I think dispatchers would create those flights. Ask TOCART, he may be able to come up with some polar routes!!!Actually, I'm interested by EGLL-KLAX (I did it 3 weeks ago as a real pax!!)Francois

hello ben,there is something similar for polar but not as natsit is called PTSthere are pts spts rpts 1pts 2pts qpts 3pts ppts 4pts opts nthey re used for crossing from europe to north part of north americaabout using own routes there is an option called random and the plans follow some wpts after a few flights the route is inside the system but that s another story ...!!!sometimes flying to lax from europe is done just under pts but not with and sometimes following nats or random nats depending winds in high altitude and also about etops rules for a twin...so not so easyphil

Hi Phil,thanks !Are the waypoints of these routes (pts s, 1, 2 ...) fixed ?Or are these only entry / exit points ?For example, if I am posting my flightplan to ATC, do I haveto post just PTS 1, and the controller knows what I am doing ?Or is it only the entry /exit point and the additional waypoints have to be posted as well ?Do you have any idea, where to read (books/internet) something about the rules of PTS ?Thanks a lotBen

Jeppesen AT-5(HI) depicts the polar track structure. They are fixed routes.
