EGCCI know I've raised this point before but never had a clear-cut answer. Your first flight plan begins DCT DVR whict I interpret as Direct to DVR. However, the UK Manual of Air Traffic Services Part 1 states that flight plans that don't begin with a SID will be rejected (at aerodromes where there are published SIDs). The main reason is that SIDs also reflect noise preferential routings. My understanding is that ATC will not route aircraft off a SID until the aircraft has reached 4000 ft because of the noise abatement requirements. Can you explain the reason for DCT to DVR rather than the DVR SID?

However, the UK Manual of Air Traffic Services >Part 1 states that flight plans that don't begin with a SID>will be rejectedYou are right, all FPs must start and end with a valid SID/STAR, however my flightplan source does not include the SID/STAR, only the first and last waypoints on the airway system.Therefore DCT DVR is not actually direct Dover in the real flightplan, a SID will of course be included and stated. Likewise when the aircraft returns to London "ALESO DCT EGLL" is not actually ALESO direct, ALESO actually represents the start of the BIG3B STAR into Heathrow (you can download the chart at www.ais.org.uk).So just because the plans I (and some others) post here do not specify a SID/STAR, does not mean there isn't one in the actual flightplan and the crew will follow one, at least until ATC give a revised clearance or vectors.Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. They do raise another questions - why doesn't the source used show the SIDs and STARs and where does its information come from?
