Like everyone is saying, they are heavily still in service. Here's a little tid bit of knowledge: Earlier this year, Midwest Express Airlines retired and scrapped the oldest flying DC-9 in the world. It was the #2 DC-9 to roll of the line at McDonnell Douglas.

A good web site, Marc- and a very thoughtful piece there too. I'm sorry.Just got my private certificate this year (Jeffco airport, near Denver). If you're ever on a company ride out here and get to spend the night, make sure you contact me by e-mail.Bruce.

HiHere in Venezuela, there are still plenty of them in service. Aeropostal has a big fleet of dc-9 (about 20) and Aserca airlines too. These planes are still the backbone of comercial aviation here in Venezuela. Avensa/Servivensa also used them, but this airline disappeaed last year. Some examples..http://www.airliners.net/open.file/264719/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/173851/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/284002/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/190364/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/122694/L/http://www.airliners.net/open.file/190362/L/etc..Henrique

I believe I've seen Continental Airlines DC9s here in Miami at KMIA, also Iberia.

Delta has a ton of MD-80s. Go to Terra Server (satelite image site) and track down Hartsfield. It's an older picture, but I doubt you will find more MD-80s in one place than there!

>largest DC9/MD80 operaters are/were: >>Trans World (was with the DC9-15/20/30/40/50 MD82/83) >Delta Airlines (was MD82 now MD88/MD90) >Continental (was the only have a very small amount of 82s >left) >Northwest (still operates them but not many) >Midwest Express (MD80 series/DC9) >American Airlines (the largest MD80 operater on this planet, >with 275 then and now since the accquisition of TWA it went >up to about 300 something) LOL...having read all the previous posts to this thread, I don't understand HOW you can possibly say Northwest doesn't operate 'that many' DC-9s... Have you ever been to Detroit?! :-lol They operate nearly as many DC-9s as American does MD-83s/-87sAlso, and there is a bit of a misconception that MD-80s are really DC-9-8Xs. The only DC-9-80 was the Super 80, which was the end of the DC-9 line. All later MD-80s were MD-80s, as that is what McDonnell Douglas named them.
