Sheryar's KDCA scenery observation and question.

Recommended Posts

Hello Gang! There is no question that Sheryar Ansari has outdone himself with the KDCA scenery. This scenery is very well done and it is also very accurate. After flying a couple of circuits around the area, I noticed that my FPS would not go any higher than 8 when having the airport in sight or being at the airport itself. I know that this is supposed to be a GMAX based scenery, which in theory, should yield better frames than non GMAX sceneries. I usually get between 7 and 11 at SimFlyers sceneries (Except DFW), with AI traffic in full swing. With Sheryar's KDCA I am getting 8 FPS withou any AI active. Has anyone experienced similar results or is this something that I may be experiencing on an individual basis? This is not intended to be a negative comment on Sheryar or his scenery. I am just trying to maximize my performance with this scenery. Sooooo! The flamers, please refrain from firing this way - Thanks! Thanks for any help or comments!Sincerely,Dennis D. Was waiting for someone to comment on fps. Have a read of the readme about options and details of why the fps is hit. There are many options to reduce the hit on performance, my favourite being removal of the metro and car ramp (these are BIG hogs! and remember this is a Flight Simulator :D). Try out the options and you will see better performance.GMAX is very much better performance wise than earlier tools but as in aircraft design one tends to push the design limits with the extra performance.Apologies! :-hang Shez

Yes I have to agree Shez has outdone himself on KDCA, I stated in another forum that I feel like a THIEF downloading the scenery. IMO I think Shez could have done it as payware and got $7 to $10 per download. In the readme I beleive that Shez acknowleges that that this is frame rate intensive. You are going to have to turn down your sliders which means loss of some of the detail.I am getting 8 to 12 FPS with a AMD1800XP cpu and a GF4 ti4200 sliders set @ 80%.Regaurds

Another great job Shez. Thanks so much for the effort. Framerates here aren't as bad as I'd thought they might be. With no AI and everything else maxxed I'm seeing 19-20 on short final, 15-16 on the runway, and then things drop off to 11-12 in the really "tough spots". That's a little better than I get with the SimFlyers at KLAX. Very flyable and tremendous details. Just super! (Nothing OC'd on these framerates).TripNorthwood 2.2a Abit TH7II-R512MB Samsung 40ns PC800Gainward 64MB GF4 Ti420040.72's DX8.1 WinXP Pro

One thing that worked for me, I've got FSSE, and with the Washington DC Mall scenery it crawls, without it, I've got happy frame rates.lobaeux
