A little tip to get the Voices to sound faster Under Wi

Featured Replies

Hi guy's here is a tip to get the Voice feature in Active Sky 1.6Make or if there is already one on your desktop a short cut to the Activesky Program. Right Click on the short cut and replace the line in the Target with something like this:%comspec% /C "start /ABOVENORMAL G:ActiveSkywxREwxRE.exe"Just replace the path to Active sky to your respective path.A note to mention on the path must be all one word if you have to change the folder name of Active sky pleas update this in the wxre.ini file as well. I tested this it works well!Cheers,Michael GallagherHappy Weather Flying!

Hi MichaelWhat does this line really mean? And what does it do?Just curious! ;-)Regards

Hi,This will set your priority of wxRE to "HIGH" instead of "NORMAL", which will enable more processing power to be spent on playing back wav files so there will be less pauses in between words/phrases.Currently, wxRE v1.6 sets priority to the highest setting, "REALTIME" before playback, and back to NORMAL (or IDLE if option chosen). I would imagine most systems would playback faster in REALTIME (it does on my system), but I understand that HIGH is optimal for some systems. So, if you are having trouble with long pauses between words, you can use the above suggestion (Thanks Michael) and it will probably speed it up for you. Hope that helps!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

I'm not receiving any voice reports using ActiveSky with FS2002. What voices am I missing that are being referred to in the initial post? Are these the same voice readouts one gets from switching to an ATIS frequency? Or, is there a .wav file meant to provide a vocal accompaniment for the metar and winds aloft green strip readout as it moves across the screen? It must be just I who am having this problem as no one else is reporting it. The installation and configuration of both FSUIPC 2.975 and ActiveSky appeared to go well, but if there is a voice feature in ActivSky, I don't have it, so I must have messed up someplace. Where is this "voice" feature mentioned in the documentation? Isn't there an easier or more direct way to activate this voice feature than the work around recommended in the initial post?My thanks for any guidance anyone might provide.Edit: Found it! "Voice flightwatch feature," that is. I believe I've got it figured out. I'll post back if I need help. For the time being, please ignore this post. Thanks.

Thank you, Michael, for your quite useful recommendation. I used it and it works, of course, as you stated. In practice, I have found the young woman's voice data readout interfers with ATC instructions, especially when one is being descended and vectored into position for an ILS approach. Clearly, the best time to switch to 122.0 is well in advance of anticipated ATC directives. I use the voice data report now sparingly and prefer the silent streaming data. Thanks again for your guidance.Russ Fromholz

Help!I tried your suggesion, but after changing the 'TARGET' line to this:%comspec% /C "start /ABOVENORMAL I:ActiveSky wxREwxRE.exe"I only get an error message box when clicking on thw link that states:"Windows cannot find 'I:ActiveSky'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."I have Windows XP Pro. Is there something that I need to do differently to get this to work?My Active Sky path is: I:ActiveSky wxREwxRE.exe I also have version 1.7, does that make a difference?Thanks!ScottATP/CFII - KCOS

Hi Scott,Try getting rid of the quotes. i.e. just %comspec% /C start /ABOVENORMAL I:ActiveSky wxREwxRE.exe-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

Thanks for the reply Damian!I gave it a try and still no luck. I will keep experimenting with the target line and see if I can get it to work.Scott :-)

Hi Scott,I'm a new user to ActiveSky, just purchased it yesterday. Still trying to learn all the settings yet. But I did get Voices to work a little better. Try this string, it worked for me;"E:ActiveSky wxREwxRE.exe" %comspec% /C start /ABOVENORMALMarv:-beerchug

Thanks Marv, I'll give that order of the Target path a try!Scott
