Thick Fog 1/8 mile vis

Recommended Posts

Guest

Hi I've found that within the last month, I am always getting severe fog with visibility always ending up being set to 1/8th of a mile.I am online taking live metar/taf's. Be it anywhere in the UK, Amsterdam, princess Julliana etc. I am always getting very bad visibility. I tried deselecting the rain/snow reduces visibility option within active sky, but that has no effect.E.g I was at east midlands airport in the uk and the report said that the cloud cover was FEW030 and BKN050, so i don't beleive i should have such bad conditions. If the Dew point equals the ground temp, then does that mean that mist or fog would occur. Is it possible for the Dew temp to be lower than the surface temp. If I understand this subject, then i don't think this could happen. Thanks Ben Rudder

Ben,Dew point should be lower than air temperature. When they are equal, then dew should form. Fog is a cloud just above the ground, usually formed by warm, moist air contacting cold earth though there are time when this is not the case. Can you post the whole METAR string when this happens? A copy and paste should work. I am going on vacation Friday, but Damian or another user will have an answer.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Jim,Hi. I ALSO am having the same problem with the progressive reduction in visibility. I am using the paid ActiveSky 1.6 and it occurs at UCA (Utica New York but elsewhere also)with the following METAR:urier" size = "5"> KUCA 242356Z 28005KT 10SM CLR 19/17 A3002If it helps I can tell you three things noticed: 1) the VATSIM checkbox is off, 2)if I go to MSFS2002's weather page and clear all weather, the sky immediately goes back to ActiveSky's current setting for a few seconds and then the 'fog' begins to form again. 3) I did not have this problem until today, after I installed FSUIPC v2.95Apologies if this has been answered before. I looked around but most of the threads that seemed related just degraded into criticism. I am pretty happy with the product. (If people want perfect weather realism then they should get their IFR rating :):)Thanks, DeanR

Dean and All,You need to upgrade to V1.87, which can be found here in the file library. Dean, you are getting vis. errors because the NOAA format has shifted all the data and AS is processing it wrong.Edit: Link:http://www.avsim.net/dynamic/92/92709377f9...re187update.zipNot sure if the link will work for anyone else. Worked for me using DAP! Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Hi Jim and all,I'm having the same problem every time I fly using ActiveSky. It doesn't matter what the METAR says, whether there is clouds or clear skies, I still have visibility reduction when I'm on ground or on final approach. I even tried my local airport, where the weather was more than 10 miles of visibility, it did the same thing :(The link you mentioned has been removed. Can you tell me where I can get the update? I have the payware version of ActiveSky.Thanks :-waveFaisal.

Hi Damian,I installed the update and nothing changed. My last flight was departing EDDH and the METAR was:EDDH 301320Z 16007G18KT CAVOK 26/10 Q1017The visibility was 1/8 nm.I love ActiveSky when I'm airborne but on ground it makes me really sadThanks for your helpFaisal.

Hi,Well that METAR report doesn't have any visibility setting, which is an error, but wxRE still will default it to 10nm. I just tried this METAR and it works fine for me.Are you sure you are clearing your weather before your flight? If you continue to have problems please send me a screenshot of main and status screens.. thanks!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table

Hey all,I have the same problem with ActiveSky. Every time I start the program to use the online weather I get the 1/8 mile visibility. No matter on what airport i am at.I makes me very frustrated because I love the program and now I realise that I can't use it anymore because of the 1/8 mile fog.I use the pay version (box version) 1.6 and I have upgrade it to 1.87Hope you guys have a solution for this.Regards,Guy Haalebos

Guy,It is just in the 3.XXX versions. In your case for FS02 to clear weather it is: World/Weather/Clear Weather button.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Hello,Nobody is still experiencing this problem post v1.86, except for your report. Please share more information perhaps a screenshot of FS, and wxRE main and status screens when this happens. At least share the METAR string that is causing the low visibility.. thanks!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table
