Switching between FS2002 & FS2004

Recommended Posts

Greeting,I have a question concerning switching between FS2k2 & FS2k4. I noticed in the newest wxRe (v1.9 Beta 1) that the FS2004 docs suggest making some changes in the "OPTIONS" setup area (e.g. Overcast vis reduction: OFF, Rain/Snow vis reduction: OFF, etc.) since FS2004 handles these internally. It appears that if you want to fly either FS2k2 or FS2k4 (using the full potential of wxRe), you will have to change these settings manually each time you switch sims. Is this correct or did I miss something. And BTW, thanks Damian for a great add-on.Gary T.

Hi Gary,Yes these options should be changed for best results with each version. A suggestion: You can make two new wxre.ini files - call them wxre2k2.ini and wxre2k4.ini. Change each one to have the proper settings for each sim. Then make a batch file start2k2.bat (with notepad) that contains this:copy wxre2k2.ini wxre.ini /YwxreSave this .bat to your activesky folder, and make an icon. Then make a start2k4.bat with this:copy wxre2k4.ini wxre.ini /YwxreAnd make another icon for this .bat... now you have 2 icons each one sets you up and starts wxRE as desired. Just remember any OPTIONS settings made after this point won't be saved, they will be overwritten (in wxre.ini) when you run one of the batch files - so options changes should be made manually (to each) at this point.Kind of complicated but not too bad, and it will make changing options much easier on the fly :)-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table

Hi Damian,Couldn't we just instal WxRE twice on our PC's, and dedicate one to FS2002 and the other to FS2004? Of course we would then have to keep each install in sunc with your updates but theat would be a minor problem.regards,Dave (CYVR)

Hi Dave I suppose that is possible if you want to try but there may be some installer issues when trying to update 2 installations.-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table

Damian,The .ini/batch file idea sounds good. I'll give it a try.Thanks,Gary T.

Hi Damian,I'll let you know. I have to add the new update tonight anyway. I don't think there should be any problem if you change the initial installation path during the set up.regards,Dave
