Hi all,We've been getting repeated questions about AS2 so I'm posting a general info thread here with the most common answers...- ActiveSky2 is still under development. New features will include full FS2004 weather area integration, included Radar Gauge, improved flight planning, flight plan awareness, enhanced wake turbulence simulation, dedicated private server access, and more.- ActiveSky2 will not be free.- There will be an upgrade offer for existing wxRE users (price not yet determined).- Look for release info soon (no details yet, but I have just significantly increased the development priority and things should be wrapping up soon)Check here for more info as it becomes available...-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table

Good luck on the radar, I haven't seen one reliable simulation of it yet, other than the now defunct FSMAX efforts, using wxRE. :-walksmile Ron McLeod CYEG

Any backward compatibility with FS2K2 in case I'm not there yet because of other vendor conflicts? Can you interface with local weather in FS2K2? I'm especially interested in the Radar Gauge after suddenly running into trws especially during departure and approaches when your close to the ground and wind shear does its thing converting my aircraft to scrap metal.

Hi,Yep FS2002 compatibility planned with radar in "global" weather mode.. You'll see radar returns for areas of precipitation around your aircraft but (until you upgrade to 2k4) you will not see any rain-producing clouds where those targets indicate until you fly into that area. Similar to FSFlightMax... FS2K4 / localized mode will visually depict those area appropriately even at a distance...-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table

PLEASE! OH PLEASE! Please say that it will support FS2k4's dynamic/local weather! (I know you just did above, but I don't get a chance to act out drama too often! heh) I tried Damian, O did I try. But even with the default Jeppesen problems, I have to say I like it better than the 'quick change' global features of 1.9 under FS2k4. So, that leads me into REALLY wanting ActiveSky2 for FS2k4. It just looks and feels so much more real to see clouds coming from 60-70miles away. And looking back behind you to see something different than what you see in front or off to the sides. But I sure you understand what I'm saying. ;-) Wow.. ActiveSky2 just took a jump up the "Can't wait for list!" with the mention of dynamic weather support, radar, etc. All of the sudden Half-Life 2 has some company on the must have list! :( Ok, maybe I'm getting a bit too excited..I do take it that since it will be both FS2k2/2k4 weather engine capatible, that it will rely on FSUIPC still? If so, will a non-registered FSUIPC have some weather options not available?

Hi Bob,Yep, distant weather areas are a great new feature with FS2004... it takes time to develop a proper engine to deal with this for maximum realism - i.e. how to integrate a local dynamic weather smoothing system while supporting distant localized weather at the same time. How to properly display overcast layers, multiple layers, visibility changes, improve performance when able, etc... The work so far has been very encouraging and should far exceed the results seen in other add-ons..Yes FSUIPC still will be required, but all advanced features will be provided internally be AS2 so you won't need the registered version (although it is always highly recommended to support further FSUIPC development by registering!)...-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table

Great news!! I was very very happy with this program under FS2002 but have held off using it on 2004 because it does not support the separate weather areas. After seeing that in the default 2004 weather I'm with the other guy, I can't go back to a global weather look. So be assured that if version 2 supports those separate weather areas I will definitely be one of the first in line to buy. I really miss the extra goodies besides just the weather that ActiveSky gives like the weather reports.
