Problems downloading weather

Recommended Posts

Hi all,I'm running version 1.87 of ActiveSky in FS2K2. Up until now I haven't had any problems. However, the past couple of days I am unable to download the weather. I get a "error timeout downloading" message. Also, the weather from previous downloads/days does not seem to work. I get a messages telling me to check my "ini" file and download new weather....which I obviously can't do.I fly in the "offline" mode, using the limited winds aloft option for those of us who are bandwidth challenged.Any suggestions?Regards,ScottKJMS

Scott,Sorry you are having trouble. The error timeout message is from a slow Internet connection or a server having trouble. Were you having trouble before the Blackout? Some Internet connections may still be down. I just tried and got the same results in Offline Mode, but Online Mode is working fine. Honestly, I don't know then. Watch for Damian to come along.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Jim,Any idea what is causing the timeout errors when in offline mode? Getting really frustrated here...I was able to download a set of weather files late this afternoon. This evening I was watching the radar on the Weather Channel and found some "interesting" weather, so I tried to download a newer set of weather files. Damn thing timed out on me again....Any help will be appreiciated.Regards,ScottKJMS

Scott,I say its those gosh darn servers again. Last night no go, this morning, good downloads, now I see your message and try again and no go and I have a cable connection. Online Mode works very well. Damian has often presented his negative feelings on this and he is very close to a private server setup. Until then I don't know what to tell you. I wish I had a better solution, but I don't. Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Hi,Yes the offline winds download process is very bandwidth intensive and any kind of internet issue will cause timeouts. Usually the situation is temporary. You can try the low-bandwidth winds download option and usually re-trying the download a 2nd or 3rd time will eventually work. -Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table

Hi Damian,Thanks for the reply. I only use the "low bandwidth" download option. Never had a problem until a couple of days ago.Recent downloading problems aside, I sure do like your product, and am very thankful that you created it! Makes simming much more interesting, and realistic ;-)Regards,ScottKJMS

Hi allRight now (1315Z) the problem seems to be with TAFs, not winds. I've made several attempts to download weather in the past 3 hours and I get the timeout/error message when the program finishes downloading METARs and should start getting TAFs. So I don't think the low bandwidth download option would help anyway.CheersMiltos

Hi Miltos,On my end, I can't get past the Metar download before the timeout error.Regards,ScottKJMS

Hi all,Problem identified.. NOAA's TAF cycle files have stopped working - probably only temporary, but I have added code to handle this situation by skipping the TAF data altogether (and continuing with just WINDS and METAR info)... fix available in the beta (check top of forum for link)..-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table
