Public Beta for ActiveSky wxRE v1.91 now available (BETA4)

Recommended Posts

****BETA 5***V1.91 Beta 5 now available...http://www.hifisim.com/wxre191updaterc5.zipSee revisions below for changes....*****************Hi everyone, The beta for 1.91 has started, and is publicly available (to existing wxRE 1.x users ONLY)...Download link: http://www.hifisim.com/wxre191updaterc3.zipUse at your own risk - this is a non-supported BETA version (official release should occur within 1 week). Here's what's changed:Revisions to v1.91 (from v1.90)* Added code to check for a stuck global weather condition, where wxRE writes are not being accepted by FS9 (intermittent problem reported on some systems) - When this condition is detected, nearest localized stations will be written to with the same global wx conditions - You should DISABLE CLOUD TRANSITIONS if you experience this condition often, to prevent excessive stutters* Fixed problem with heavy rain value scaling in FS2004 (caused crash in FS2004 when heavy rain was present)* Fixed problem with TCU strings (Towering Cumulus) in METAR not being generated correctly* Fixed problem with TS strings (Thunderstorms) in METAR not being generated correctly* Added continuation of offline download process even if TAF data is erroneous (TAF data skipped)* Added option to use short-term TAFs instead of standard 24-hour TAFs (useful in some countries for more consistent METAR/TAF conditions)* Removed "Update FD On New Station" option which was a waste of bandwidth (when enabled) - To enable more frequent FD updates, just reduce the interval settingThanks for testing!!! Please supply feedback here on this thread or via email to damianc@hifism.com.. Damian, I sent this post to "damianc@hifism.com" and it was returned as "undeliverable". Hope it's not something I said :~)Hi Damian I've updated my computer hardware to semi-current and my OS to XPHome. Everything works except wxRE! I'm getting "Trouble reading ini . . . . . . ". Have tried to download both offline and online files but can't get any weather station, only: Weather Station xxxx ; 99999999nmThen: Bad Data Winds Aloft/Try at next interval I've tried different locations with identical results. I'm using new modem that is functionig quite well, for a modem. I'm using Registered FSUIPC v3.04 and have done all settings there and in wxRE and FS9 by the book. Could it be the NOAA servers? Or am I off on a trip to Wonderland? Regards, Jack Decker

Jack,With the new OS did you install a firewall that needs to be configured? I am running wxRE right now with no problems from the server.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Jim,No firewall, unless something is built into XP Home that I haven't noticed. wxRE worked fine in 2002 (Beta team member). This is 1st attempt in 2004.Guess I'll go back to the drawing board. Thanks,JackD

Jim,Where is the wxRE.ini supposed to reside? It is automatically sent to: C:Documents and SettingsJack Decker, along with erroneous wx files that have been generated. The .ini lists offline file destination thusly: WXREOfflinePath = C:Documents and SettingsJack DeckerMy wxRE installation is located at: C:Program FilesActiveSkywxREIf this is incorrect, how do I change it? I will edit the .ini if neccesary, given the correct info. Thanks,JackD

Dirk,Yes I got the same results with the first two METARs also. Damian, the error in FS is that g2d.dll error. The ONLY time I have gotten this is with those METARs.Yep, the e-mail address is wrong. There should be an 'i' in hifisim!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

JackD,Check in the XP help. I'm no OS expert and I still run 98SE, but I recall other postings in general at AVSIM with users that have Internet connection issues.OR:::Your wxRE.ini file must be in the main ActiveSkywxRE folder. What you may have here is two installs of AS. That might also be why you are having connection problems. Without me sitting at your computer I would say that the best thing for you to do is completely un-install AS and start from scratch. Install the base installation and then upgrade to 1.91.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

There is currently a line of T-Storms between Houston and Galveston (0100 EDT 22AUG03). Went there and started ASWXRE. WX seemed to load, nothing fancy. Took off and headed to Galveston. No T-Storms. Checked the advanced WX options in the sim and the upper wind was set at...100000. Turned it down a notch to 99999 and POOF, the storms appeared.FS2K4 seems to round up to that number for some reason. Strange, very strange.BChttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg

Hi, JimWith yesterday weather downloads (212100Z), all went righth. No failure in 10 different test zones. It was like a METAR file corruption. Metar20Z.met(day 20)has 2.414 KB size (wen normal for my are 1.500 KB max.)ThanksDirk Trotteyn

Dirk,Glad you are up and running, but those first 2 METARs still caused FS04 to crash for both of us. I hope that the data does not keep showing up in METARs causing other users problems.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Damien,I just installed the latest FSUIPC and reread the instructions. Should have done that a while ago. I had the option under FSUIPC winds for "extend upper wind layer upward" selected. This sets the limit to 100,000 feet from FSUIPC and overrides your setting, which shows as 90,000 feet (as per your intentions) after I turned OFF that FSUIPC setting. So the wind thing was my fault and I apologize for sending you on a wild goose chase. Who wants to tell Pete D he needs to change that 100,000 foot thing to 99,999 feet?I now wonder how many settings in FSUIPC could be getting people (like me) tripped up... RTFM. That sound you hear is me banging my head on my desk...BChttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg

V1.91 Beta 2 now available...http://www.hifisim.com/wxre191updaterc2.zipThis fixes a problem with heavy rain in FS2004 that would cause an FS crash, and adds an option to use PREVIOUS TAFs instead of CURRENT TAFs (useful when flying outside the US). If you experienced any problems with beta 1 please install this update and test for the fixes - thanks!!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...
[/table
