June 22, 200421 yr One of the main reasons that I bought Activesky wxre was the promise of smooth cloud transitions. Well, I'm getting none of that. I think it's actually worse now than with FS9 alone. Can someone please help. I've read a few posts and am wondering if there is a difference between AS2004 and AS WXRE. I've seen a few things about suppression but can't find it anywhere in the program. Here are some of my specs:FS9FSUIPC: 3.220FS9 is started then WX is cleared from FS9 then through FSUIPCFSUIPC settings: see screen shotsDan RelfeC-130 Flight EngineerUSAFhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/81265.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/81266.jpg
June 22, 200421 yr Hi,There is a large difference between wxRE and AS 2004. wxRE is still operating on a global weather system and not a station based system. There is no suppression in wxRE. Some suggestions:Turn OFF TAF processing.Turn OFF Update METAR on New Station.Increase your METAR Update Interval to 30.In FS make sure dynamic weather is set to none and weather theme is user defined. If I was the one to promise smooth cloud transitions with wxRE, please post a link. I want to do my best to help! Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
June 22, 200421 yr I bought this product thru pcaviator not knowing that there was a difference. Are the two products not made by the same company? On the box under one of the captions it says "Experience smooth cloud transitions, realistic thunderstorms and wake turbulence.) I feel like I've been taken for a ride. I seem to have once again bought into an inferior product AND paid too much for it.Dan RelfeC-130 Flight EngineerUSAF
June 23, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi Dan,AS2004 is about 1.5 years newer than wxRE, and made exclusively for FS9. wxRE is FS2004 compatible but was designed for FS2002. FWIW wxRE DOES have cloud transition smoothing (by octas) as advertised but unfortunately it doesn't work that nicely in FS2004 in certain areas (again, made for FS2002 and later made compatible with FS9).Please request a refund from pcAviator and let them know you bought the wrong product (you can then get AS2004 from www.hifisim.com).... If you have any trouble, please contact me directly at [email protected] for resolution.Sorry about this, but with the "lag" that exists in the retail distribution chain, there can be this confusion as to which product is which. Unfortunately we have no publisher for AS2004 yet (still looking!) and the only way to get AS2004 is directly from us. Hope this helps!-Damian Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
June 23, 200421 yr This helps so much. I just got off the phone with PC Aviator and they are going to honor the refund. In the mean time I'll be at your site ordering the right software. Too bad I missed the promotion. Oh well, thank you for all of your help. Dan RelfeC-130 Flight EngineerUSAF
June 23, 200421 yr Glad to read about the refund. If you hurry the promotional price is still active. I just checked myself!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
June 23, 200421 yr Well, I downloaded the new program (the promotion IS still active), installed it and messed around with it for a little while. I wish that I had something good to say... I hope that you can settle for- this program is awesome!!! What an improvement over WXRE. This is exactly what I was expecting, actually it's way better. I can see clouds way out in the distance and eventually fly into them. They don't just pop up out of nowhere and then disappear just as quickly. I usually fly around Davis- Monthan AFB, AZ. My practice flight was into Fort Huachuca/ Libby AAF. The corridor leading to libby is usually very turbulent in the summer in real life. Imagine my surprise when for once, that turbulence was there in the sim along with realistic cloud cover for that area. WOW!!! I am so impressed with this product. Hopefully I don't run into any of the problems that some users are having. If I do though, I've seen the product support here and am not really worried. WOW!!! Thanks for all of your help.
