AS2004.5 Winds Aloft lag?

Recommended Posts

Guest Graham B

Just wondering if the winds aloft data is lagging behind the real world data. I ask because I used to notice it was fairly accurate when compared to the data below, but currently it's out by a fair amount. Yesterday on a flight the FS winds were way off from what the flightplan (Both Navtech and Fltplan.com for the time of flight) predicted. It's usally pretty darn close which is one reason I love Activesky! For example:AS2004.5 B172 active WX 04 1850Z, SFO:FL030: 154/39 (12.60)FL060: 160/44 (8.20)FL090: 162/45 (4.80)FL120: 170/42 (-5.80)FL180: 168/46 (-19.60)FL240: 167/42 (-31.30)FL300: 159/53 (-47.30) Spot winds for SFO current time 2000Z,SFO, N37372W12222403000 5010+12 06000 3013+07 09000 2015+03 12000 31018-0218000 29027-1624000 29034-2630000 30041-421800Z FD for SFOSFO 2005 9900+07 3410+04 3316-01 3218-16 3323-26 352442 335352 336164The current AS SFO winds are stronger and predominanty southerly, while the current NWS data is lighter and more northerly to westerly.Using Denver as another example:AS:FL030: 209/05 (10.20)FL060: 205/05 (4.40)FL090: 203/05 (0.60)FL120: 306/11 (-1.80) FL180: 322/03 (-15.90) FL240: 049/02 (-29.00)FL300: 114/13 (-45.40)2000Z spot wind:DEN, N39488W10439603000 6006+12 06000 6006+05 09000 7004+00 12000 18002-0618000 13015-1924000 11014-3130000 11018-461800Z FD:DEN 3307+03 9900-03 1114-18 1020-29 102444 111653 211361Again the AS winds don't relate to the other two. I plan on doing MRY-PHX this afternoon, and I'll write down the winds and temps aloft on the FP and see how that goes.Best regards,Graham

Hi Graham..Will check this out.. first report of such. In the mean time please check your "Aloft Predictability" option, make sure this is 100 when making any comparison... Can you confirm this? Thanks!

Hi,Thanks for catching this and reporting - we did find a problem in the server process modules that were causing greater-than-normal inconsistency (apparently due to some very recent network changes). We re-worked some routines and it appears fixed - we'll be keeping a close eye on it over the next few days... let us know if you notice any problems! Thanks!!!Best,
