Activesky Offline

This product sounds great but I run my Flightsim on a computer that is not connected to the Internet.I get all my stuff via a friends Internet connection.Will I be able to use ActiveSky and if so how do I get the weather files???regardsRichard

Whilst you could use your friends pc to d/l the metars & take them back to your pc on a floppy, then use WXre "custom write" feature to paste the contents of those metars into WXre. But do you want to pay $$$ to have to do that??

Hi there again,Well yes I think it would be great and not all that much to pay for such an enhancment.It does not bother me that I would be using old weather files.Would be great to have that smoooooooooth transition!!regardsRichard

Hi Richard,You can download your weather files manually or with wxRE's auto download button. Once you download the files you can transfer them to the other computer and select them in wxRE and you're all set for offline mode. Hope this helps!-DamianP.S. Please be aware of the license restrictions about simultanious use by more than one user. You will need to purchase 2 licenses if your friend will also be using wxRE on his own. Thank you Damian.Let's see if i have understood...i have to download cycle file from main page or anonymous FTP and put them in ActiveSky directory right? After that have to put ActiveSky in direction of those .txt METAR's? Will ASwxRE take care of .txt files? Are those .txt files complete?ThanksLuigi ;-)

Hi Luigi,Yes you just put the files wherever your offline folder is (defaults to ActiveSky wxRE installation folder) and you then create a .wxd (use an existing one for reference), where it points to each file. You should get the METAR and TAF from NOAA, and the simplest is to use the existing winds aloft, but you can create your own one of these as well it is just a little more difficult (no benefit from doing this if you are not flying in US.. just use the existing winds).Thanks Luigi! If I can't be on-line and I want some randomly generated weather I use weathermaker (freeware) by Calibresoft (http://www.calibresoftware.com/).It's not the real weather, but you can set the parameters to get a likely representation of it and it does then randomise within that.
