Wacky Temperature changes at high altitudes

Recommended Posts

Guest Paul Heaney

After making a few Across the Atlantic flights with the new SSTSIM Concorde, I noticed a problem with temperature changes above FL500.I have the Option "Force Constant Route Aloft Temp" checked, but I'm still getting drastic changes anyways. For example, it went from -55 to -48 Instantly, then back up a few minutes later. Over the next hour, temperature was varying quite a bit. This proves to be extremely frustrating, as anyone who is flying this aircraft knows, that she's extremely touchy to Temperature at this altitude, and higher.Am I doing something wrong? Is there a preferred ASV(Enhanced) setting or FSUIPC Setting that I need to check? Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul,Was just going to start a thread on this when I saw yours. I was doing a 737 flight from KOAK-KJAC and was seeing temperature changes from -20 to +22. When it went to +22 it stayed there for a while and you can guess what happened to the airspeed...almost fell out of the sky.Otherwise I really love ASV Enhanced but this one has me scratching my head. Any ideas anyone? Thanks,

Gerald

Absolutely. However I load it, while connected to the Sim (Via WIDEFS) and the flight plan is loaded in ASVe after it downloads and updates the current weather from my departing airport.I read somewhere that people import and load the flight plan, before loading FS9, but I don't think you HAVE to, do you?Just trying to see if I missed anything. Thanks.

Hi Jim,Yes, I started ASV and loaded and processed the plan before I started FS. Processing seemed normal and I scanned the nav log as usual before closing it and all seemed well. This did occur in a fairly remote area of northeast Nevada, approximately 50-60nm NE of Elko and there really wasn't much around in the way of large fields for reporting. Could have been ratty data from some remote AWOS or something like that, I guess? This is the only burp I've seen from ASV-E. Otherwise it's been just great! Thanks,

Hi Jim,Sorry, should have said. Using B367 as well as all the clouds except 512.Thanks for any help y'all can give.

SSTSIM Concorde here Jim.I'm currently flying JKF to Seattle, and I was getting temperature ranges above FL500 between -55 and -62 in the span of about 10 minutes. FYI.

Hi Paul, all,When you are using the "Force Constant Aloft Route Temps" option, are you also entering/importing and processing a flight plan within ASVE? Please confirm, as it is required for proper operation of this feature.I have been flying the SSTSIM around on some test flights and have not experienced such temp changes (using flight plan and force constant temps option). If you can duplicate a certain behavior at a certain portion of the flight, please share your wx file, ASV.ini and flight plan, I will try it out.Best,

Hi Damian, I flew JFK-LHR this evening, flight plan processed before starting FS with "Force Constant Route Aloft Temp" and like Paul, also experienced a sudden temperature shift from ISA +4, to +0 to +10 in the space of 10 seconds or so. I then turned this feature off in the options menu and the ISA settled at +12, which reduced as I climbed/flew East. The rest of the flight was smooth with this feature disabled. I would suggest departing from Halifax and flying East. This is the region that in my experience, most temperature shifts occur. My ASV.ini and current_wx_snapshot file can be downloaded here.Best Regards,Andrewhttp://www.sstsim.com/images/team/AW.jpg

Hi Damian,As with others I was flying yesterday from KMSY to MMMX at FL380 with the PMDG 738, also with "Force Constant Route Aloft Temp" enabled. Crossing the Gulf of Mexico my TAT inside the cockpit was +20C the SAT reported on the FMC was -13C, this is far too high for 38000 feet. As I approached the Mexican boarder the temps were still far too high. I am going to turn it off for a flight today from MMMX to KLAX. Will report back later today on the results.Bob JohnsonDenver

Hi Bob,You do know that using the Force Temp. option locks the temps according to your destination airport right? The temps should not change because that is the idea behind this option. Not sure if you knew this or not!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Jim,I was just going to ask that question. I did disable Force Temp option and my temperatures are much better. I would hope that the AS team could come up with an improved method, everything else in ASVe is just SUPERIOR.Hope this helps you guysBobKDEN

Hi Andrew, all,Thanks for the feedback and files.. We're looking into this in detail, hope to have some progress soon...Anyone interested in testing a debug build to identify this issue in greater detail, please send me an email to damianc@Hifisim.com with the subject line "High altitude debug version request".Thanks!
