On the ground at KLGA tonight, ceiling OVC 1700 feet, dusk, beautiful sim of OVC while on the ground, 2-3 miles north as passing through the layer, became a scattered thin layer instead of the several thousand foot stratus layer really there. METAR in ASv6 still saying ceiling OVC 1700 feet and just refreshed 5 minutes before. Weather sliders all set at or above recommendations. Anything I am doing wrong? Thanks. Textures are awesome!!!!On the ground-http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137834.jpgClimbing out-http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137832.jpgASv6 window-http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137835.jpg

Hi Doc,Lots of stations in that area, all influencing the weather.A bit hard to see because it is night. And the ASV screen is small, but I do appreciate the effort. Are you favoring Cumulus vs Stratus? Are you Forcing Lowest Ceiling?Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg

Cum vs strat-unchecked, force lowest ceiling-checked. Stratus sep-7000. Sorry so small, just wanted to show the OVC 1700 in the metar string. The ovc layer was awfully thin, only a few hundred feet. Thanks.

Will try that tomorrow night. I thought Force lowest ceiling would depict the lowest OVC the best. When would one use the force lowest ceiling option? Good night!

Just read the highlight that comes with the force lowest ceiling box. I see where that would stop showing the upper layers. Thanks, there is so much to this in all the detail!

Jim- This is making me nuts. I woke up today to low ovc at my home base, KSCH, METAR 8 mi, sn, OVC 500, KALB 8 miles away, 5 mi, OVC 800 at 1300Z today. Unchecked choose cumulus over stratus and force lowest layer. Fired up FS9 cleared all weather, fired up ASv6, refreshed, waited 10 minutes. Looked like nice low OVC at KSCH, as I climbed through 500 AGL, hit a wispy thin 1-200 foot see through layer of what looked like stratus and even up to 4000 AGL could still see the ground every where. Flew over to ALB (stayed within 8 miles)and same thing, at 1600 feet MSL, airport 240 MSL, on the ILS19 had full view of the ground and the airport from 6,4,2,1 miles north of the field. OVC enhancement also on. 3D clouds 100%, detailed clouds 100%, sight and draw 59 miles. I want so much to simulate nice solid low OVC to practice my IFR procedures once or twice a week. Any other ideas. I have some pics I'll post tonight, not at my home PC. Thanks again!SEL,IFR,COM

Here is the ini and a screenshot climbing through 1000 agl. Could this be the visibility problem the person with the poor english wrote about above?? Thanks Jim.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137920.txthttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137921.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137922.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137923.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137924.jpg

Jim- Do the settings seem OK? You can see the OVC and how thin it is. How does ASv6 know how thick to make the layer? Is there a way I can use different settings with ASG to thicken the layer? Thanks so much again. Still is awesome what you all have done.Specs-2.5 GHz, Nvidia6800GT, 1 gB RAM, Pent IV, windows XP. Frames locked at 20.Take care!

A few things:Supression Ceiling 4000Force Destination Weather Zone-OffTAF Processing-OffFog and Haze Layer-OffMaximum Thickness-Default value. Your value looks too large.Give those a try.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg

Will give it a try. I thought one needed increased max thickness to get accurate t-storms. Thanks again. Have a great weekend!

Jim- Just flew in from KPIT to KALB a couple hours ago, tops 8000 or so all the way, solid OVC at KALB 4000 AGL. Booted up the sim with the above changes and this is what I still get. Is there any other way to get a solid stratus layer?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/138085.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/138083.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/138084.jpgThanks again for all the suggestions..
