Import a route or just leave it alone?

Featured Replies

I know this might sound like a silly question, but I'm wondering what difference there is between importing a route from an FS9 flight plan and just leaving AS open.It appears that AS adjusts the weather to where I'm flying either way, so what's the point of importing a route?Just wondering JEff

Hi Jeff,Not a silly question! If you are using Auto-Submit and wx Influenced textures, AS and ASGraphics need to know your departure airport. Importing a plan is one way and setting your default airport is another way. Thanks Jim, I guess I wasn't clear. If I just open AS (can't remember what my default airport is), then I run FS9, AS always seems to automatically see what airport I'm at, then it updates the weather, so it appears to work just fine without doing anything. As I fly, it appears that the weather is updated. So, my question is, why bother importing a flight plan if AS automatically detects where I'm at and submits the correct weather?Am I right or does it just seem like it's auto detecting?Jeff

Hi Jeff,You are correct in all your above statements!Still, the reasons for flightplans are:1. To use the correct wx Influenced textures if you are using this option. Notice I wrote textures not weather. They are not the same thing! 2. If you are forcing any conditions, then AS need to know your departing and destination airports. The only way is through a flightplan.3. If you are using FlightWatch and want your destination weather conditions spoken, then you need a flightplan.4. If you want to know the weather along your route, you need to submit a flightplan. But yes AS is constantly monitoring your present location in FS and processing the weather for that area. If you are not using the above, then a planis not needed.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

Yes that answers my questions, thanks Jim!Jeff
