AS Weather vs. FS_meteo vs FS9 Jeppesen weather

Featured Replies

One of my favorite activities in flying in FS9 is looking at various country-wide weather and flying into and from inclement conditions that I can find from multiple USA weather map sources. What I seem to encounter over and over again is that FS_Meteo and the built-in Jeppesen seems to do a better job of replicating these found inclement weather conditions more so than Active Sky.Please don't mistake this as a flame; I'm merely asking... have I not set up AS correctly? I have constant online updates checked and from what I can recall, all default conditions checked. From what I understand, AS is supposed to be state of the art in accurate weather generation.TIA for any/all assistance.Woody W.

Hi,Can you give us specific examples? We will need the data from all your sources and what you are seeing in FS04.Would you say it is the way things look in FS04 that is different?Feel free to also post your ASv6.ini file so that we can take a look at your settings.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

Hi Woody,Please do give us an example because yes we indeed strive to give the best possible rendition of accurate conditions... and if this is not occuring for you, we want to know all about it.When comparing data, it is important to be aware of the reporting times. If you're looking at a map that's 3 hours old, for example, it won't reflect the conditions AS online mode will (which is as current as possible, yielding an approximate 20-30 minute lag time after reports are transmitted from the actual station). We've made many efforts to make our data as up-to-date as possible and compared to other sources, this could be why there is a difference. You may have already considered this but it is worth a mention.Of course there may be some other kind of problem but we first need to have a clear documented example/comparison to make sure we are comparing apples to apples.Best,

Thanks very much for the prompt response guys. And yes, I know I need to be aware of the timing of the weather maps I'm using, eg, one of my favorite sites is http://weather.noaa.gov/radar/. The time listed there is UT and as I write this it's 10:11 EDT and the time listed on the map, is 1345 UT. From my piloting days, I forget if we're to add 5 or 6 hours to that time.Nonetheless, currently there are large systems spanning several states which I shouldn't have trouble replicating in at least some areas.I'm at the office now so I can't invoke FS9 & AS right now, but at some point in the near future, when I can point out a discrepancy, I'll attempt to let you know as soon as possible and hopefully, you'll see the posting soon enough to see what I'm seeing.Again, I am greatly appreciative of the AS product and am just seeking as much actual weather realism as possible. And I will post that ini file as requested also.Oh, and the recently released beta - I don't have that yet. I'm sure I should install that as well, right? Thanks very much again for your time and efforts.Woody W.

Ooops, I meant to say 'From my piloting days, I forget if we're to add 5 or 6 hours to that time', subtract that time....

Hi JimAS requested, here's my ASv6.ini file: Please let me know if you see anything hooribly out of whack.Thanks very much for your time.Woody W.//ASv6 configuration file Build 470[General]WindowPosX = 495WindowPosY = 495DefaultWeatherFolder = C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesASv6SuppressionCeiling = 10000SurfaceWindLimit = 10FS9Path = C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9PersonalAppDataFolder = C:Documents and SettingsA.
