June 6, 200620 yr The thing is this. There is a laptop I have from work. Until now I used AS and all other FS related programs locally on my desktop at home. Now I want to move them to the laptop and use them via Widefs to save as much system resources ont he main PC for FS.But the Laptop sometimes has to stay at work, when I use it as part of a test setup, so I won't always have it when flying. So my question is this. Can I make an istallation in a way that when I have the laptop I run AS from the laptop while flying on the desktop, and when I don't have the laptop, AS will run locally? If so, how should I install it?http://online.vatsimindicators.net/825051/142.png

June 7, 200620 yr FS is installed on the Desktop. Full stand alone AS is installed on the desktop too, this is how I used it until now.Now that I have this laptop, I want to make a remote installation on AS and WideClient on the laptop, and have it run AS whenever I have the laptop. The problem is that I sometimes don't have the laptop and in these cases I still want to run it from the desktop locally...Thanks!
June 7, 200620 yr Hi,As long as FS is not on the laptop:1. Hook up the laptop to your network.2. On the laptop install ASv6 according to the WideFS Installation. Make sure folders are shared and mapped correctly.3. Make sure this set-up works.4. Disconnect the laptop.5. Install ASv6 on the FS computer. If the laptop is present run ASv6 from the laptop. If not, then run from the FS computer. DO NOT attempt to run both copies of ASv6 at the same time!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
June 7, 200620 yr AS is already installed on the FS pc. Will installing it on the laptop ruin that installation (i.e. do I need to install it on the desktop again afterwards)? Thanks for the help, I will try it tonight!
June 7, 200620 yr Another question - Do I need to keep the shared and mapped foldersafter ASv6 is installed on the Widefs laptop? Since this is a work pc I would like to disablethe sharing for security reasons if not needed.http://online.vatsimindicators.net/825051/142.png
June 8, 200620 yr Hi,1. No need to reinstall on the FS04 machine.2. Yes, the shared and mapped folder settings must remain.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
June 8, 200620 yr Very good! From our end it is just important that both installs of ASv6 are not running at the same time.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
June 17, 200619 yr I understand what you mean about sharing the folders but what do u mean by "mapping"?ex: ASv6 is on 192.168.1.55. It is in C:program filesASv6. Share name is ASv6.So do I map that folder and "Map" it to drive "Z"?
June 17, 200619 yr Hi,Mapping may be a term from previous versions. From the Readme txt doc:1)Make sure that sharing is enabled and that you have proper read/write permissions for both the WideFS computer (ASV6 path) and FS Computer (FS9 path and Documents and SettingsUserApplication Data path).Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/
June 17, 200619 yr FWIW I use AS6 both locally and over a network. I set my clouds using the local ASG. For testing or quick work I run AS6 locally, but when I want to have a few FSUIPC things going on I run the network AS6. The only thing is that if you use the flightwatch audio feature, the network computer needs to be close enough or good enough speakers to hear it. I don't use the auto clouds setting so don't know how that works over the network.scott s..
