SP2 Clouds disappear - reappear

Recommended Posts

Subject says it all, really. I sit on the tarmac for 10 minutes for preflight. ASX sets weather OK. Then, after a few minutes the clouds disappear and are redrawn. Seems to happen every 5 mins or so. Happens again on takeoff. I've reinstalled FSX Sp1, ASX, ASX(SP2) etc. It reads the metar correctly but the constant cloud redraw is awful!!.I'll also add that I've set ASX defaults, to no avail.I've had previous problems (pre SP2) but now, with SP2 doing this, I'm disappointed.

I don't have anything else running except NHancer, MyTrafficX and Radar Contact, though it still occurs without RC. I use FSAutostart to turn off a lot of services.I did some further testing and it seems as though it's mainly the first layer of cumulus clouds that are being redrawn and the visibility switches back and forth a bit on takeoff - but only at about 1500 feet.I'm seriously considering a system reinstall.

OK, thanks Jim. I'll post a metar next time I see it.Another thing I just realised: When I reinstalled ASX, I may have installed ASX SP2 over the original (skipping SP1). Could that be a problem?

Hi,I have the same problem.Note that clouds are redrawn just like AS6 (no smooth change). It happens when downloading weather automatically and mainly when sceneries are detailed. Memory problem ? (with 4GB and Vista 64 ?? I don't believe).Regardsbhdo

I have experienced the same thing. Clouds dissapear instantly and then fade back in i like 30 seconds or so at the exact same place as before.Never had this problem pre-SP2, so it must be the cause. I have not changed any settings exept turn on the new wind smoothing.RegardsHenrik

Same thing here. Not enough flight hours yet with SP2 but I think it happends more on higher altitudes. A rendered cloud layer disapear then reappear 20 seconds later. Not very sure wheter it happened with SP1 or not though.

Well,I've totally reinstalled Windows XP on a clean drive and installed FSX SP1 and ASX/ASG SP2.The problem still exists. * Clouds still "pop" and redraw no matter what the METAR * ASX takes sooooooo long to implement weather * ASX chews CPU cycles (30% at times) when updating weather. So, although the default FSX Real weather as not as accurate at depicting weather, I'll have to go back to it.

OK,I did a short test. Here are the route METARDeparture (YSSY):YSSY 190300Z 07013KT 9999 FEW038 SCT058 23/13 Q1017 NOSIG RMK INTERPOLATEDYSSY 182227Z 190024 06015KT 9999 -SHRA SCT030 SCT045 FM12 36010KT 9999 -SHRA SCT025 BKN035Enroute:MQD:YCNK 190300Z AUTO 14005KT 9999NDV // SCT032 25/17 Q1016 RMK INTERPOLATEDYSRI 182223Z 190018 07010KT 9999 SCT025 SCT040 FM12 VRB05KT 9999 SCT020 RMKDestination (YSCO):YSCO 190300Z AUTO 33007KT 9999NDV // SCT039 SCT100 BKN115 24/15 Q1016 RMK INTERPOLATEDThe weather was consistent, with no abrupt changes, until about 20nm out of YSCO. Up until then there was a blanket of cloud below me at around 3000ft (My flight at 6000ft). I could see a cloud bank ahead of me (on the horizon and getting closer) but, all of a sudden, large clouds popped up in front of me.I had all default ASX setting except "Force Priority Processes" which I had checked and Downloads set to 30min.I'm wondering whether "Dynamic rate of change" is causing problems? If I set my route with appropriate METAR, surely the rate of change would be determined by onroute weather and nothing else?

Hi,Thanks for the screen shots. Makes our job a little easier. The log file is normal. That is the visibility changing, not the clouds being redrawn and this is a FSX situation. The best we can do right now is use the Enable Visibility Graduation option and Enable Fog Layer Simulation, though the the fog would not affect this situation. You will see the same thing if you use FSX weather.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/

Sorry to have brought this up again but I've been doing some experimentation with ASX and am still having the same issues. I've updated FSX to ACCeleration/SP2 and repaired SinConnec and reinstalled ASX.I also downloaded the latest FSUIPC and still got the problem - uninstalled FSUIPC - same: Still have clouds dissapperaing and reappearing, sometimes every 2 minutes.I'm at a loss here, and would like to hear from anyone else having this issue. It's driving me &^%$%# crazy.
