Average wind direction and speed.

Recommended Posts

Hi, when planning flight, how do you calculate headwind/tailwind and speed. I am aware of the average speed direction through as6. But if one is flying say on a heading of 360 and wind is 100kts at 270, I usually half the speed i.e., headwind of 50kts, is this the correct method. How would you work out heading of 360, wind at 100kts from 290Jim

If you are flying north, and the wind is blowing from the west, you have no head- or tailwind at all, only crosswind. But, let's say you are flying north, and the wind comes from 300 degrees... Then you can split it up in a head/tailwind part, and a crosswind part.Tailwind=wind*cos(airplane_direction-wind_direction)Crosswind=wind*abs(sin(airplane_direction-wind_direction))

Hi,I posted a few hours ago from another computer, but the post did not show up.If you can wait for the next SP you can get this information just as in ASv6.5. If not, I am sure there are online calculators that can give you this information.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
