Blurry Lettering on panel in VC

Recommended Posts

Guest steveh

Hi, I have a strange problem when using the VC in the two RAF C47s. The lettering above the blind panel is all out of focus, ie the lettering around the warning lights. Even stranger, this does not happen with the original R4D and earlier upgrades. All other lettering on the panel is sharp.Any ideas?SteveP4 3.0 ghtzATI Radeon 9800pro1gb ramXP

Oh dear! I hate to admit it, Steve, but you are right! I see the same blurriness in the C-47 VC. It's not just the area you mention, either. It's the whole VC panel. Take a look at the gear light area, for instance. This has to have happened in the course of Jan recoloring the VC textures. Looks like we'll be issuing another patch in due course. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Don't know how we all missed it!Just my luck - I have just finished burning 100 of a 7th Edition CD including patch 1. :-(Bill RambowMAAM-SIM http://www.fssupport.com/maam/maamsim_neon.gif

Thanks for that Bill, I thought it was my computer settings. I will await the patch which presumably will correct the airfile problem also.Steve

Hi chapsJust seen this post myself ... it's mipmaps causing the issue for you, probably. This won't be the case with all users, I think. The latest VC textures were saved with mipmaps, whereas earlier ones weren't, and as all experienced FS men know, sometimes that's good and sometimes that's bad! Depends a lot on individual setups and video cards. However, I favour the "chuck 'em out" approach myself, so once we've checked this out thoroughly it may be that Jan resolves to address this issue accordingly. Working on it, and sorry if some of you thought your eyes were failing you :( I have not seen the problem personally with my Ti4800. I noticed the mipmap problem myself with the Dakota. One thing that has helped me fix this in the past is fly once with the mipmap control set to full detail in the Display Setting menu. I'll go see if that helps and report back.Nope, changing the mipmap detail level around didn't improve the VC instrument panel detail. I even went from 1 to 7 and only got back to the same level of detail that I started with. Oh well, it isn't that bad, I can wait for the patch.

Out of interest, Ken, are you an ATI or Nvidia user? Or something else? Some quick testing seems to narrow this down to happening with ATI cards, so far, but not Nvidia. Familiar story to some, perhaps. Also, have you tried a quick zoom in and out? That usually fixes the blurries problem on DXT3 mipped bitmaps, for the life of that session at least.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg[/a]

I've got an Nvidia GeForce FX 5200. Just tried the zoom in/out trick without sucess. However, that trick does work on other mipmaps, particularly the FS2004 default building textures. I notice this most frequently with the texture of the EAA Museum building at KOSH.Actually, I don't want to make a big deal about this, but I've fixed the problem using DXTbmp.exe and some file copying. The obvious problem files seem to be r4d_vcl, r4d_vcc, and r4d_vcr; without MipMaps these files look terrific. I'm such an anglophile; everytime I write "VC" here I think of Victoria Cross, not Virtual Cockpit!

I too am a hopeless Anglophile, but I'm also a Vietnam veteran, so when I see VC...;-)Jan has provided repaired bitmaps and they can be found here... http://www.fssupport.com/maam/nomips.zipJust stick them in the C-47/Dakota texture folders and do away with the dreaded fuzzy-wuzzies forever.
