Maam-Sim DC-3 and FSX ?... YES!

Recommended Posts

Hello,I've installed the Maam DC-3 into the FSX Demo and it works great :) :http://www.scharnhop-hh.de/fsxmaam.jpghttp://www.scharnhop-hh.de/fsxmaam1.jpghttp://www.scharnhop-hh.de/fsxmaam2.jpghttp://www.scharnhop-hh.de/fsxmaam3.jpgThe only problems are the Alpha Textures. With Alpha Textures the DC-3 is transparent. But without them I have no problems. I am very happy that I can use the beautiful Maam DC-3 in the new Flight Simulator. Now the FSX can come... :)GreetingsTim

There are some changes to how textures - and a few other things - are handled, but we're confident that the aircraft can be adapted for full functionality in FSX.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/avsimlogo.jpg[/a]

Let me re-phrase that, Is this demo available to all?

Yep ...http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulatorx/ Personally, I find it a bit weird that MS have chosen to release a demo of a sim that is still in beta and is not yet publicly available anyway; but it certainly gives you a feel for the new sim, albeit that it's limited to two airports and three aircraft.636MB though, if I recall ... take a week off to download it if you're on dialup :)MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/avsimlogo.jpg[/a]

Hi guysThe problem with the alpha textures can easily be fixed for now by just coyping the file envmap.bmp from your FS9 main texture folder to the FSX main texture folder :-)But I have another problem: I can't make the gauges work in the demo. I have tried copying the MAAM_R4D.gau to both the main gauges folder AND the panel folder of the plane itself, and I HAVE added it to the "positive list", but it still doesn't work. What have I done wrong?Best regardsKim Dahl

I was able to get gauges into the demo as follows:1. copy fssound.dll from fs9modules and paste to Microsoft Flight Simulator X Demo root directory2. copy MAAM_R4D.gau and SPERRY.gau from fs9 gauge to your fsx DC3 panel folder3. for sound, you need to paste the sound directory from your fs9 MAAM-SIM R4D-6sound folder to the fsx DC3 sound folder. That seems to work on my machinethanks for the envmap.bmp tip - that works well

Hi PaulThanks a lot for that tip. I had forgotten to copy the fssound.dll :-) And I found out that the gauges work just fine if you put them in the main FSX gauges folder.BTW you can easily turn off the FSX start up music by setting the value AmbientUI=0 in the fsx.CFG (just a little tip for those of you who are not so impressed by that piece).Happy LandingsKim

Great that you managed to install the DC-3. But did you have to do it manually or can I use the autoinstall from de cd-rom? If I have to do it manually. could please anyone tell me how? I'm not too good at this. So a helping hand would be great :-)thanks in advanceJan from Holland

If you want to see the beacon, nav and other lights, you will also have to copy the DC-3's effect files (fx_RD4*.*) from the FS9 Effects folder to the FSX Effects folder.Charlie

Jan,The sub-directory structure of FSX demo is not quite the same as FS9 so a direct installation of MAAM will get you close but will not work.I re-installed the MAAM CD to a temporary file and then cut and pasted into the demo.Differences are:1. No modules sub-directory in demo so FSSound.dll must be go in C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator X Demo2. No aircraft sub-directory in demo so files for planes must be copied to C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator X DemoSimObjectsairplanesOther than those differences, the other sub-directorys are the same so you can cut and paste the remaining files directly. Also as pointed out in an earlier posting, you need to copy envmap.bmp from FS9texture to the demo texture file

//Also as pointed out in an earlier posting, you need to copy envmap.bmp from FS9texture to the demo texture file This is actually not a 'quick fix' but what should have been there in the first place; apparently MS 'forgot' to include this in the demo. Texture handling has changed, though ... some, if not all, FSX aircraft will now have night lighting capability by way of night lighting bitmaps, it appears, both internally and externally. Rather like was the case in FS2002 but drifted a bit in FS9!MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/avsimlogo.jpg[/a]

Mark,First off, thank you for the no-yoke fix. It was the finishing touch to the MAAM team's upgrade of the VC cockpit in the C-47's.In other forums, you have refered to the work the team is doing to ready MAAM for FSX.In light of our ability to copy the C-47 over to FSX demo, and your references to new texture treatments and lighting effects, I wonder if you could enlighten us on what to expect as FSX and the refined MAAM software comes available later this year. Will it be a full release like the VC upgrade, or a series of patches? What issues do you need to address to make the sim FSX ready? The demo has offered a glimpse at what is to come and wetted a lot if appetites. We'd appreciate any info you can share.ThanksPaul

Hi PaulThanks for your interest. There's nothing to report at this stage for the very simple reason that the new sim is still in beta and has some way to go to completion. So although we're looking at anything we may have to do, or want to do, to the MAAM-SIM ships for full compatibility with FSX, it would be premature to attempt to answer your questions.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/avsimlogo.jpg[/a]
