Hi crew,I havent been here for quite some time but I still fly and love this old DC 3,in fact I could delete all the other aeroplanes and just use it as a DC 3 sim :7 I remember flying your first one from Barcelona to Palma Mallorca with FS 98. It took me about 7 hours to download over the telephone line :-sun1 , but the joy of flying that wonderful old Gooney Bird with an amazing panel and a sound package which was unbelievable ! I remember thinking then - it can

Hi Aly (is it Aly?)Thanks for your input; I can see your imagination is running riot! You do have the latest version, do you? If you do not, and your memories are of earlier versions, you will find there are many improvements already. You'd benefit, I think, from reading up a bit more about flying this aircraft properly. Firstly, you may have the cowl flaps idea the wrong way around: you should NEVER fly with open cowl flaps, they are only ever open on the ground while running up engines and taxiing. When in climb, cruise or descent, they are in trail or closed position. Check your checklist for the timing of all this.Your engine temps are certainly likely to rise if you drive her too hard. At the other end of the spectrum, in a DC-3 if you pull back the RPM too quickly on descent you can shock-cool the engines, causing seizure or fractures. At present, our aircraft do not fall to bits and burst into spectacular flaming wrecks if people do not fly them properly, although integrating some degree of engine failure reaction is on our list of things to look at doing. In the meantime, have you ever tried flying in subzero temps without turning on your carb heat appropriately, for example? You'll find yourself in trouble if you don't. Have you tried taking her to her operating ceiling if 22,000 feet? To do so, you'll need to exercise good control of blowers, mixture and RPM, not to mention learn the rudiments of the step climb if you're going to get there effectively.I can tell you that there is an AM radio in the works - as an unofficial add-on - for the Gooney, which will give you the ability to 'tune in' to 40s stations en route. As for the period vehicles; well, that's not really a function of the MAAM-SIM development ethic, as we concentrate on the aircraft, but FSX offers all kinds of possibilities for such immersion. Watch out for some very exciting things from those developers who take advantage of what FSX can offer. In the meantime, please note that the existing MAAM-SIM models will be updated for FSX presently at no charge to those who have supported the museum to date by buying the latest version of the R4D-6 or B-25 packages. Maybe you'll be one! Note though, that to update these to take full advantage of what FSX can now offer (nightlit panels etc.) is a lot of work, requiring rebuilding of every single gauge amongst other things. So bear with us; we may offer a temporary 'fix' to get people flying, as other developers have done, but haven't really decided on that yet, given that we're still examining the issues. Half-hearted work is not what MAAM-SIM is known for! So bear with us ...MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/avsimlogo.jpg[/a]

Hello,I own a lot of add-ons but the Maam-Sim DC-3 is still the best!Especially all these free updates are outstanding for a FS add-on.All in all I am very very satisfied with the current version!! :)The only thing I would be happy to see is a passenger DC-3 with a left hand door:) :http://www.scharnhop-hh.de/dc-3ld.jpgAnd the interior of the "OY-BPB" or "R4D-6":http://www.scharnhop-hh.de/dc-3ld2.jpgAnd I'am really looking forward to the new VC Upgrade for the civilian DC-3! :DGreetingsTim

it is indeed Aly, Mark.Wot can I say......RTFM I guess!!Yes I do have the current version. In fact Ive had em all matey - BT included. I have to admit that i didnt know that the blowers were functional - what a dork!!!I only ever slum around below 5,000 and usually VFR but I have never experienced engine icing as yet. Do you know that I love the old girl so much that I have never crashed her ?? ! To me she is almost like a living thing and I would hate to hurt the old lady.......I think I better get the disc out and stop being so bleedin' lazy and read it through. I will try to take her all the way up as well Mark, thanks for that.Nice shots Tim. She is a pretty lady too ;)

>Do you know that I love the>old girl so much that I have never crashed her ?? ! To me she>is almost like a living thing and I would hate to hurt the old>lady.......A man after me own heart ... we feel the same way over at DC-3 Airways. It increases the immersion tenfold if you look at things that way ... focuses the mind, so to speak!Trev Morson (he of www.douglasdc3.com fame) once suggested that the sim should lock up for two weeks if a user crashed an aircraft. Well, that's never going to happen - there are too many non-pilot-error sim issues that would screw that concept up - but I rather liked the idea. So, anyway, don't scratch that paint! Ahhh, the grand old DC-3. I have the last two releases and I have my Uncle addicted also. And I have Briefing Time at the ready. It's a wonderful way to travel. I've logged a good many miles thus far - the longest being a 'round the world trip. Took a year and a half flying as I had time. I needed a couple of 'other' planes to complete the mission as I haven't figured a way to get from LAX to Hawaii with the -3. So I used the DC-6 for the long hauls and the the DC-3 for the rest of the trip. That trip was a geography lesson. Using real world weather and flying in whatever was happening was great. And I documented the whole thing for my small flight group to read. A good time was had by all.A wish list. I'd love to be able to click an option and remove the modern planes and replace them with what would be correct for the late 40's and 50's - the multi engine propliner era. I get tired of being chased by the super heavies, and ATC doesn't understand my inability to climb at 3000 ft/min in an IFR flight plan.Oh, and thank you ever so much for the products you have provided. My wife doesn't thank you directly, but she does agree that my excessive sim time is better than having me hanging at the bar.Mark

MarkWhat you seek is already achievable, although not with a mouse click, admittedly. For a complete, period sim environment based on FS9, go to Bill Lyon's GOLDEN WINGS page:http://www.goldenwings.info/GOLDEN WINGS is a full parallel install of FS9. As a DC-3 freak, I use it all the time for my personal flying. And I mean ALL the time. I have not used FS9, apart from for testing development work, for at least a year. For aircraft and airports that will recreate a propliner environment within FS9, but which can also be used to further enhance GOLDEN WINGS, go to Tom Gibson's excellent propliner resource at:http://www.calclassic.comNow all you need is a month to explore all this lot! Seriously, though, both sites are worth investigating thoroughly.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cx.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/avsimlogo.jpg[/a]

If we are adding to an FSX wish list for the great old girl .......... how about a newer "invisible yoke" patch to buy us time til the "full meal deal" comes out. I sure enjoyed when the FS9 patch came out. Also, getting all the overhead and cowl functions working fully from the vc cockpit would be nice. How about a goal - no need the use a pull down panel to fly unless someone desires it.FSX is going to be a definite next generation sim - I look forward to the MAAM planes being right there too.If you haven't tried it yet, try fly the "Africa Relief" mission using a MAAM C-47. Much betterGood flying to all ..........

>how about a newer "invisible yoke" patch to buy us time til>the "full meal deal" comes out. I sure enjoyed when the FS9>patch came out.All future models will come with a pilot's yoke that will disappear on the TAILHOOK command. The FO's will remain.>Also, getting all the overhead and cowl functions working>fully from the vc cockpit would be nice. How about a goal ->no need the use a pull down panel to fly unless someone>desires it.Cowl flaps already work from the VC in the most recently released models. Radios don't, no, but will do one day. Just give poor Jan time to have Christmas (and maybe Easter :) )>FSX is going to be a definite next generation sim - I look>forward to the MAAM planes being right there too. That'll cost ya! But there'll be a basic FSX upgrade giving what you have in FS9 now, yes.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cx.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/avsimlogo.jpg[/a]

Here's a wish for you guys: have you ever thought about doing your N3N for FS? My first logged hour of real-world flight time was in one of those and I've never seen one done for any flight sim. Plenty of Stearmans but no Navy N3N's. It has the advantage of being a very simple airplane. :D

Hi KenIndeed we have! We were pretty much set to do one with both land and seaplane versions, but the consensus was that is would not be a very popular aircraft compared to some others we own. It still may be somewhere in our future though - never say never. But if you check the library you will see that Steve Grant did a "Yellow Peril" for FS2002.Bill RambowMAAM-SIM http://www.fssupport.com/maam/hgrsm_blkani.gif

I missed that FS2002 version, mainly because I never bought that sim in the first place. I should also know better than to say "never" too.Anyway, the thought to ask you about the N3N came to be after seeing the pictures of MAAM's fine example. I certainly understand about he popularity issue; on both flights I took in the N3N, pilots couldn't tell the difference between it and a Stearman, so why bother with another version of the same old thing? Too bad, with your access to the real plane and with a tenth of the quality to gave to the B-25/R4D, the N3N would be the one of the only planes I'd fly in FS2004 or FSX.
