Multiplayer and routers

Hi all,I posted a similar question earlier, but it quickly slid down this page unanswered. So let me ask a different and very simple question: has anyone out there successfully hosted (not joined) a multiplayer game when connected to the internet through a router? If so, what is the make and model of your router?I have an SMC Barricade that is giving me all sorts of grief. I want to try a different manufacturer, but would prefer to use one that someone else has had success with.

I use a LINKSYS BEFSR41 router and have no problem. What IP address are you giving as the hosting computer, you need the IPaddress of the router not the one that win ipconfig comes up with on thehosting computer. If that does not work you will also have to forwward thefollowing UDP ports: 6073 and 2303-2400 with DirectX 8. Thank you for responding LA_47. I'm able to connect to a multiplayer session if I stay behind the firewall, but if I try to enter through my assigned IP address (my ISP uses DHCP), that is when I run into trouble. According to MS, the ports that need to be open for FS2002 (DX7) are 2300-2400 and 47624. You are the first one to mention 6073, which I believe is for DX8. But according to DXdiag on my machine, FS2002 is still DX7. This I find confusing. The other problem I have is with the syntax that the SMC router uses. I have the choice of trigger ports, which can be associated with public ports. But there is also a seperate menu for assigning virtual servers. As best I understand, this simply directs incoming traffic to the correct computer on my LAN, which I've done with limited, but not complete success. I'm still willing/interested in trying to figure out how to properly configure my SMC router, but for security reasons, I would rather not do this on a public forum. If you are willing to help me further, perhaps you can send me an e-mail using the e-mail option above. At least now I know that it can be done if I purchase a Linksys router.Edited for spelling and further information
