St...St... Stutters with New Ti4200

When my HD crashed 2 weeks ago while fixing that problem I took the opportunity to do a moderate upgrade to my AMD 1.4 PC - including going from 256 MB to 512 MB of RAM and upgrading my GeForce2 64MB video card to a Geforce4 Ti4200 128 MB.Imagine my horror when instead of the silky smooth framerates I was expecting with this new rig I now have a bad case of the stutters - and not just with FS2002 - also with CFS3, IL-2, and StrikeFighters:Project1 - so it looks like a system problem. The FPS counter in FS2000 shows a solid 30 FPS (with lock at 30 enabled). Stuff runs smooth for 3 seconds, pauses for about .5 seconds, runs for 3 more seconds, pauses .5 seconds etc etc. very regular and predictable but driving me nuts. I did not have this problem with my previous setup.I have the latest nVidia drivers (41.03) and have tried various other earlier versions, have messed with antialiasing, changed display options, and nothing seems to make any difference.Anybody got any ideas? I'd hate to have to "retro grade" my machine!I'm running Windows XP Pro btw.Thanks for all suggestionsBill

Bill:I had the same problem two weeks ago as you are having now. Mine was caused by a virus, specifically a JS_Corrupt, which apparently interferes with the Java Script. Once I removed the virus, the stuttering stopped.The other possibility is that occassionally sound acceleration gets moved from basic to High acceleration when manipulating your system doing defrags, etc. The solution is to access DXDIAG via START / RUN / type in DXDIAG, and select the SOUND tab in the applet that appears on your screen. Alex:Thanks for the suggestions. Latest Housecall virus scan does not show JS_Corrupt or any other virus present. I moved the sound acceleration - which was maxed - to basic and there does appear to be some lessening of the pauses but they are still noticeably there :-(Perhaps the sound driver is an issue here. I'll keep working the prob. If 12 years in flight simming has taught me anything it is that eventually there's a solution to everything if you hang in there.Again - thanks for the helpBill

Bill:One more thing. There is a program called End It All, which closes all unneccessary programs running on your system. When I was trying to figure out my stutters, I opened End It All and noticed that for some reason there were TWO copies of windows explorer running simultaneously on my system. The offending explorer had a slightly different name, like a .exe program or something, so I did a search, located the program and removed it.
