CRT monitors that specifically support 1280 x 960 res?

Featured Replies

Anyone have such a monitor? Mine (NEC MultiSync FP955) does not support that resolution (according to the user's manual), though I have read that FS panels look best with a 4:3 aspect ratio resolution, such as 1280 x 960, 1600 x 1200, or 1024 x 768. I have to agree, as I had been running 1280 x 1024 for a long time, but discovered that I could not read some of the text on the Eaglesoft Citation X panel at that resolution until I changed it to 1024 x 768. The Eaglesoft support forum recommends 1280 x 960 for the 4:3 aspect ratio, and I believe that is also the recommended resolution for the LDS767, which I also have. My montior _will_ display something at that resolution, but it does not fill the screen as nicely as the supported resolutions, and I can't seem to adjust the geometry (or whatever you call it) to look right. So for now I'm running in 1024 x 768 with AA and AF turned up. May give 1600 x 1200 a try, but I fear that will take a huge bite out of my FPS.Mark Kuebeler

You should be able to display that resolution as your maximum resolution for this monitor is 1920x1440. The resolutions showing up in your display/monitor settings are factory preset resolutions. Have you tried going into your display settings, clicking on the Monitor Tab (if you have an ATI video card) and unchecking "Hide Modes that this monitor cannot display". I like option should be available for a NVIDIA card. Once done check to see if you now have that resolution available and give it a try (unless you are concerned it could damage your monitor). I would not exceed your maximum resolution of 1920x1440 if available. If you don't have the resolution you want then you'll have to buy another monitor. Perhaps a call to NEC support will give you more options.I use to run FS9 under 1280x1024 for a very long time too and it gave me excellent results on my 21" CRT monitor. But now I have just purchased the Dell 2005FPW 20.1 inch LCD monitor and run it at 1680x1050 resolution and get excellent results. Some gauges are stretched a little with the LevelD767 but hardly noticable and give me excellent FPS (between 30 and 50)Hope this helps.Jim

Have never heard of a CRT that can

I'm going by the specifications in the user's guide which lists resolutions supported. It does include 1920 x 1440 (@ 50 to 73 Hz) as the highest resolution, for example, but not 1280 x 960. I can certainly select 1280 x 960 from the display settings, it just doesn't look right compared to the supported resolutions. I'll play around with the refresh rates, that may make a difference. Thanks,Mark Kuebeler

Switching from a refresh rate 85 Hz (which I was using for 1280x1024 res) to 100 Hz did the trick. That gave me a 1280x960 display that I could expand to fill the screen without the uncorrectable distortion I was getting at 85 Hz. LDS767 panel looks so much better at that resolution than 1024x768. :)Mark Kuebeler
